Where are we on fundamentals right now?

    Posted: 07 Apr 2019 06:54 AM PDT

Hi. Have been investing in crypto since the early days, and always looked at fundamentals. Last year was pretty brutal of course, but it seems like some technologies are crawling out of their holes and confidence is coming back into the market.

I was always very big on Ethereum, but exchanged a lot into Bitcoin recently. ETH has no solutions for scaling yet, where Bitcoin has shown its value and use for more than a decade now. Ethereum is still a promise, Bitcoin already works.

Where are we on the Alts considering fundamentals? I still have about 1/5 of my portfolio scattered over things like XLM, GNT, and even TRX (just made so much money on it in so few days last year that I'm keeping some for nostalgic reasons.....). I have been truly disappointed by the lack of dApps, and the slow pace of actual use cases - like Identification tools on the block chain. I see potential still, but sometimes I wonder what will be needed to actually make the market switch.

Right now, the most pressing use case for distributed identification** and value transfer seems to be industries that love anonymity - like dark net markets. I have no moral opposition to those (if they keep to drugs only), and see them as giving Bitcoin an actual use case in which it's perfect.

Would love to hear your general thoughts on fundamentals, your overall mood with the market, and actual use cases for crypto you know of (that aren't trading platforms or gambling websites).

(**) I came up with a sketch for an elaborate system for decentralized identification for a future legal drug market: a physical card combined with a fingerprint for verification, exams that give you different levels of access to new substances. And a private key at home for recovery. It's a perfect use case because members would be verified but in control of their data. Only other use I could think of were other privacy-sensitive groups like gun clubs. But still I thought: why would people actually care - as long as they feel their data is safe.

    Bitmex wants you to short

    Posted: 07 Apr 2019 03:32 AM PDT

I'm in the bull run since ETH = 115$, I'm trading ETHUSD on Bitmex and I have a great entry. it's been one month now since my position is open and I already spent 10% of my money for "funding". Funding takes 0.1% every 8hr for ETHUSD on bitmex. do your math, it's 10% / month. Shorts get the opposite, they earn 10% month. I'm forced to close my longs, I can loose all my money even if I'm absolutely right on ETH and it will go to $2000 again. Funding will get 100% of your money in a year. If I was a whale I would short a huge amount of money with 0.50x leverage with no liquidation price, and just earn funding. Whales do short. Bitmex is the exchange where most of the volume happens, and as long as I have to pay 10%/month for keeping my longs open, the bull market will never come again. "If Fundamentals did not change and your asset dropped 90% of it's value, then expect a bull run", they say. Well, exchanges ARE part of fundamentals in crypto space, and Bitmex introduced new contracts when the crypto bear market started. coincidence?
