Just made a small purchase with Lightning, the fee was 0.003 satoshi, or about $0.00000015

    Posted: 03 Apr 2019 10:06 PM PDT

It was a simple post on Yalls for testing.

The payment went through 2 intermediate nodes, one of which didn't charge anything and the other just a fraction of a satoshi (3 millisatoshi).

While the mempool is getting full and on-chain payments fees are increasing, fees on the Lightning Network are still incredibly cheap and the same as any other day.

My students have just asked me about how old I am and whether I own any bitcoin.

I said: I am older than the internet and I bought my first bitcoin in times when Google auto-corrected "bitcoin" to "bacon".

    Haha ... What a nerd! +10000000%%%%% respect.

I would like to start investing in cryptos

    Posted: 04 Apr 2019 12:36 AM PDT

Hi, I'm a 26yo male doctor in Thailand with more than enough savings.

I would like to diversify my money and I've heard of bitcoins long before any of the derivatives are born.

How should I start? what are the trusted site/apps ?

How can I know I'm not signing up for a scam website and takes my money? Which cryptos are trustworthy? I heard of stupid cryptos like Ponzicoins that people got fucked over

I would appreciate if replies are serious and not more memes

    I Keep Buying Bitcoin!

    Posted: 03 Apr 2019 04:45 PM PDT

A few months ago I bought my first BTC which was about $100 worth, ever since that first transaction I've been buying small amounts and now it's sort of become a thing for me. I'm not really a "spender" type of person but I do get the urge of wanting to buy something every now and then so instead of finding a random item to buy and never use again I "buy" Bitcoin. I don't have any friends who's into crypto and I just wanted to share this, :)

Is spending 100 million dollars on an asset in one day a common strategy?

    Posted: 03 Apr 2019 10:32 PM PDT

Is there a reason an institution would do this instead of spreading it out over a few months? Were they trying to grab the bitcoins before their involvement jacked the price up or were they trying to be highly visible to cause a price spike. Just wondering if someone with experience in these areas could shed some light on it.

I've Been Illustrating Each One of Bitcoin's Price Milestones Since the Original 2017 Bull run

Back in 2017, I started drawing Bitcoin price cartoons to commemorate each new thousand dollar milestone. They were fun and people generally liked them, but we all know how the price dropped from $20,000 and proceeded to flounder for over a year.

It now seems like I'm going to get the chance to give this a second go.

My very first price cartoon, from 2nd of May, 2017

In many ways, the climb back upwards to $20,000 (and beyond!) has felt a lot harder than the original run-up, and it's because the market actually has an ATH to measure itself against now. The first time around, we simply couldn't believe how fast and high we were flying. There was no limit to our ambitions! /s

When Bitcoin first hit $9000 in Nov 2017, everybody made the same joke simultaneously

But it's 2019 now and many have found their belief in crypto shaken by the long winter. We've lost so many of the so-called "weak hands" of 2017, and that term portrays them as players who need to leave the table in order for serious parties to take control. In my mind though, it's equally likely that they simply didn't understand what they were getting into and just couldn't take such huge losses.

Many people don't fully understand what they're getting into when they first try something that looks interesting; they learn through experience. That's how I got into crypto back in 2014, but I have a big advantage over the 2017 newbies because I'd already lived through one crypto winter.

I know a lot of my friends were like this, and they now simply refuse to look at any crypto market because they were so burned by 70% losses. I feel bad for them, of course, and I want them all to come back in time to see some decent gains. I'm doing that passively now though, through the art. Every time they see my work on Twitter, FB, or IG, it's a subtle reminder to reconsider their opinions.

I started illustrating the price again when we bottomed out at $3200 and started the climb to $4k

I believe that if we keep making headway this month, this will kick off THE definitive bull run of Bitcoin's second decade in existence, and I'm really glad to still be around to illustrate the journey.

Bitfinex has it's own personal time zone it seems. Bitfinex situation follow up.

    Posted: 03 Apr 2019 10:12 PM PDT

*Edit* It has taken us a long time but with the help of social media, we've managed to resolve any of the current issues we had with Bitfinex. Thank you, everyone.

So this is a follow up/update on a slightly older thread that was posted here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/b6g9vm/bitfinex_will_charge_1_for_express_24hrs/I've also shared this on twitter: https://twitter.com/embilysays/status/1113662973501829120

So, we have been having an issue withdrawing money from Bitfinex. Our two fiat withdrawals worth 40,000 USD have been stuck there for over a month now. We have a corporate account with Bitfinex, fully verified, been a client for 1.5 years.

After trying to get the withdrawals sent to our bank for a month, we posted a series of posts on social media and soon enough, Bitfinex said they will refund the withdrawals back to our account.

During that month they delivered 10X times worth of EUR withdrawals to the same bank account without any issue, so I assumed they are just having issues with USD again and are "saving face" by giving us the "concern of your account activity" excuse. Great! We thought we can withdraw in crypto and convert to fiat and get it to our bank via a different channel. But 24 hours later the funds have not been credited back yet, so we inquired with the support yet again and here was their reply.

Ok, we thought, since we are in Asia, it's probable that the admin is in the US somewhere and they will credit it during our night time. Buuuut 3 days have passed and the funds have not been credited back yet. So I am pretty sure that 3 days covers all the existing time zones on planet earth, so I guess either Bitfinex admin is working from another planet or they are just trying to keep our money hoping that we will let it go. Since then we have sent another 10 emails to support. So far, all have been left without any answers. Maybe the support is still hungover from celebrating Aprils Fools day or as it is known in Bitfinex "Our Customer day".

Last time we started posting things on social media platforms, we got some responses. We're hoping this will have the same effect as last time by posting again.

Is this valid or a scam? From MtGox attorney

    Posted: 04 Apr 2019 04:28 AM PDT

I received an email claiming to be from the Mt Gox attorney:

    The email address is: mtgox_assessment@noandt.com

I did use Mt Gox way back, but I dont remember if I had a remaining balance.

    To MtGox users

You have received this email because you are a user of the Bitcoin exchange provided by MtGox Co., Ltd. ("MtGox") who did not file a proof of rehabilitation claim(s) under the civil rehabilitation proceedings for MtGox (the "Civil Rehabilitation Proceedings").

On March 15, 2019, the Rehabilitation Trustee approved or disapproved rehabilitation claims regarding MtGox Bitcoin exchange users' rights to make claims against MtGox for return of cash or cryptocurrency, and submitted to the Tokyo District Court a statement of approval or disapproval.

Although you did not file a proof of rehabilitation claim(s) under the Civil Rehabilitation Proceedings, we found a remaining balance in your account on the MtGox database. This remaining balance was approved by the Rehabilitation Trustee as a self-approved rehabilitation claim(s), which is a rehabilitation claim that the Rehabilitation Trustee needs to approve pursuant to the Civil Rehabilitation Act if it is aware of its existence.

However, on March 28, 2019, certain rehabilitation creditors who filed their proofs of rehabilitation claim objected to your self-approved rehabilitation claim(s). In order to preserve your self-approved rehabilitation claim(s) under the Civil Rehabilitation Proceedings, you need to file a claim assessment procedure for your self-approved rehabilitation claim(s) with the Tokyo District Court by no later than May 7, 2019 (Japan Time) (date of arrival). If you do not file a claim assessment procedure for your self-approved rehabilitation claim(s) by May 7, 2019, you will lose your rights as a self-approved rehabilitation claim(s).

If you wish to file a claim assessment procedure, please reply to this email and state the sentence below in the body of your reply. Please note that we will not accept your reply sent from an email address different from the email address that received this email.

"I wish to file a claim assessment procedure for my rehabilitation claim(s) to which an objection was made."

If we receive your reply containing the above sentence, the Rehabilitation Trustee will send you an email showing the amount of your self-approved rehabilitation claim(s) and describing how to file a claim assessment procedure, along with a PDF form of the application.

If you do not wish to file a claim assessment procedure, you do not have to take any action. However, as mentioned above, please note that you will lose your rights as a self-approved rehabilitation claim(s).

For further details, please refer to the Q&As by clicking on the following link:
