Shoot down my idea: A p2p decentralised exchange between Alice and Bob

    Posted: 26 Feb 2019 04:59 PM PST

Alice wants to buy Bitcoin for ether and Bob wants to buy Ether for Bitcoin

    • Alice sets a price on the website and Bob likes the price and clicks get into trade

    • Alice initiates a contract with the amount of ether set in, the price to bitcoin, Bob's bitcoin address and Bob's ethereum address, this could be initiated with an email saying "bob would like to trade with you, click here (with bobs info auto filled into a web3 transaction)

    • Bob sends the bitcoin to Alice, Alice sees the bitcoins arrive and waits for 6 confirmations or can even do it early if she is confident

    • After six confirmations, Alice sends a transaction to the smart contract which sends the ether to Bob by a self destruct with bobs ethereum address as a parameter (self destruct will free up storage and result in a cheaper transaction).

    Settlement mechanism:

    • If Alice never claims to have received the bitcoins but did, Bob can void the contract (after a set timestamp) and get the coins by providing proof of his bitcoin transaction with summa tx in the smart contract (a valid slice of at least 6 blocks of transaction proof). The smart contract is self destructed on his ethereum address.

    • If Bob never sends the bitcoins, he will be unable to void the contract and Alice can self destruct it back to her wallet (after the set timestamp)

    Requirements:

    • Alice should only provide a fresh bitcoin address with no existing transactions

    • One contract, one trade.

    • Contract can only be instantiated when the trade has begun, this prevents Alice from making a contract in advance and waiting till it is nearly expired and thus self destructing the contract and getting the bitcoins

    • Bob must be certain the amount of coins he sends matches the amount (again can be handled with a simple payment QR code)

    • A timestamp with ample time for a settlement to occur

    • A bytecode matcher which only let's bob enter the trade if the contract code matches what the contract is supposed to be

    ERC20 transferFrom

    Posted: 26 Feb 2019 08:57 AM PST

Obviously I'm missing something, but can't anyone call this function, with any "from" address?

    https://theethereum.wiki/w/index.php/ERC20_Token_Standard

    function transferFrom(address from, address to, uint tokens) public returns (bool success) { balances[from] = balances[from].sub(tokens); allowed[from][msg.sender] = allowed[from][msg.sender].sub(tokens); balances[to] = balances[to].add(tokens); emit Transfer(from, to, tokens); return true; }

    Scammed ETH - Taxes

    Posted: 26 Feb 2019 02:24 PM PST

I got bamboozled and sent ETH to a scammer. Can I write this off for taxes? As theft? Or something else?

    Thanks.

Montenegro, known as 'The Jewel of the Adriatic' has become one of the most friendly places for business in Europe. Much of Montenegro's allure comes from its shining mix of colors: aquamarine waters, green pine-forested mountains, blazing blue skies and white pebble beaches. Montenegro offers global entrepreneurs a low-tax haven where they can pay a little tax and gain access to a network of treaties. Legal residency for a family is also easily established with the ownership of a property. While countries like Monaco have become less attractive as holding vehicles for patents or royalties, a Montenegrin corporation is suitable for a number of business activities at zero or 9% tax. In addition, Montenegro has some of the lowest tax rates in Europe and even the world. Corporate taxes in Montenegro are a flat 9%
