January 2019 Lightning Network News roundup Posted: 01 Feb 2019 11:59 PM PST Hello Coiners, Happy February. I wanted to post a roundup of all the noteworthy news this month related to lightning. It's hard to remember everything that happens over a month in this exciting space and the pace of lightning development in the ecosystem seems to be picking up. I essentially did a quick scrape of Reddit and Twitter for the last 30 days of all LN news and picked out some goodies. If you have any feedback on the format, sources, or if I should link to reddit threads for discussion instead of direct links to article (when possible) please let me know in the comments. Also, if I missed any particularly awesome stories, please comment or DM me and I'll add it to the list for posterity. If you guys enjoy this I will try to keep doing it every month. Enjoy. A friend asked me how to make Bitcoins Posted: 02 Feb 2019 01:27 AM PST We were discussing the importance of Internet money with friends and inevitably the Bitcoin was brought to the discussion. It was all great, financial independence for everyone kind of stuff, untill the topic of creating Bitcoins. Long story short, I had no arguments to convince my friends that buying a Chinese specialised hardware in order to profitably mine bitcoins was a good thing for the ecosystem. The company selling antminers being led by someone acting against the Bitcoin was a cherry on the cake. How to defend the point of view that buying expensive specialized hardware at third party companies is a good thing for the future of Bitcoin? How to explain why Bitcoin cannot be ASIC resistant, less centralised and GPU minable by anyone? [link] [comments]

Posted: 01 Feb 2019 07:19 PM PST I was just watching Joe Rogan on YouTube talking with Jack Dorsey. The discussion led to talking about the CashApp. His explanation really was seemingly leaning towards a foreseeable future where bitcoin is the highest valued money on a decentralized internet. I'm excited about what can happen in a single bull month on the way back towards discovery of the final value rather than a false momentary bottom. Looking at the bouncing recoveries of the early and mid months of last year, it show me that it can very simply be again that people are willing to spend the amounts of money necessary to fly this thing thousands in less than a few weeks. Could be 6,000 by March and 8,000 by May ;) [link] [comments]

Are hardware wallets secure enough? Q&A by Andreas M. Antonopoulos Posted: 01 Feb 2019 10:46 AM PST

Posted: 01 Feb 2019 11:51 PM PST So, my wife fell for one of these Bitcoin mining schemes and "invested" some money. The "agent" deposited the profits to her blockchain wallet but from a watch only address. He is now asking for more funds as commission to release the btc already in her wallet. Yeah, we arent falling for that. I want to play them at their own game. I want to generate the private key and get those bitcoins. I have seen some generators online, but all ask for money. After being scammed, I dont feel like repeating the mistake. Finally my question; is it truly possible to generate a CORRECT private key based off of the watch-only address? Or are all of these generators scams as well? Im willing to split the profit at a HIGH percentage if we can indeed grab these coins from the mining scammer. [link] [comments]
