In less than a week got my LND Casa Node running, channels funded, first trial payments, and finally my Blockstream stickers are here :)

In less than a week got my LND Casa Node running, channels funded, first trial payments, and finally my Blockstream stickers are here :)

    Process was simple:

    - Buy Casa Node: I have several rpi, linux user for years, and can build myself, but wanted to try this product.

    - Wait..., delivery was fast but it got stuck in customs for 1 month until I paid taxes. This made the thing a bit more expensive than it should be, but it's ok. Would be great to see EU distributors soon.

    - Unboxing: carefully open and behold the "beast" for a moment of truth

    - Plug it to power and network, find it's IP address, config Port forwarding in my router.

    - Wait..., connect to your node @http://casa.local (yes, annoying no secure local connection) and take a rest until the blockchain sync up to latest blocks. With the +1month delivery time, including customs, this only took 1.5 days to sync up, not so bad.

    - Sent some BTC to the Casa Node BTC wallet.

    - Used half of the BTC to open 5 manual Channels with known LN nodes (LNBig and so forth), several funding sizes I choose.

    - Allowed Autopilot to manage half of the funds and open Channels using it's own logic. This works, but I guess it can and will improve in future. I feel more comfortable with manual channel setup.

Feel free to open channels with me, it's a 24x7 node: 027be164a1ce7cca51a9fbfa2ce7d833dee7ee18827f4121e84e8132a2bd782418

    - When the first channel was Opened, I went to store.blockstream.com and bought some stickers using the Casa Node LN wallet to pay for them.

    - Transaction happened in seconds off-chain, got my email confirming the PO, and finally the stickers are here. Even the envelop is cool :D

    - Since then I have made several other LN payments, all went well but one which at a first attempt couldn't find a route, but in second try it went through smoothly as expected.

How do I add Bitcoin as a payment option for my company

    Posted: 30 Jan 2019 03:45 PM PST

Hi, I am not sure if I am in the right place for this, please direct me to the correct subreddit if this isn't allowed!

I run a travel agency and am interested in implementing Bitcoin as a payment option. With that said, I'm not sure where I need to start and also any legal issues I need to be aware of. Could someone enlighten me if they have a prior experience adding this as a payment option? Would payments be converted to USD automatically or will I have a choice to keep it in btc?

    Fire-and-forget LN solution?

    Posted: 30 Jan 2019 08:08 PM PST

If a non-tech-savy bar owner wants to start accepting lightning payments from customers, and have them paid out to his account once a month, is there some sort of premade solution for this? An app, or a device maybe? Or a company offering a complete solution handling it for him including tech support if something breaks? And it must be as easy for him to operate as possible, that's crucial.

    A word about LIGHTNING. !AWESOME!

    Posted: 30 Jan 2019 01:29 PM PST

After 3 long weeks i finally set up my Lightning node on RPI and i could not be happier for all the things i learnt in this journey, i read about programming, command lines, bitcoin, lightning and DAMN i realised how little i know about all this amazing world and how much I FKING LOVE IT! But one thing sticked with me... I'm planning to keep learning and spreading the word, the power of lightning is real!

I can calmly say that if i managed to make this happen ANYONE (LITERALLY) can do the same for less than 100$ just like I did. I never opened the terminal in Mac before and today im amazed by all the things that little black screen can do.

I also should be thanking for all the help i got from the Lightning Network & Lightning Network en Espanol channels in Telegram, there are 3 or 4 lads over there with the patience of a MONK! Explaining certain kind of things to me wasn't an easy task for sure. So u all non believers or lazy people, get on board now and i promise that you WILL NEVER REGRET about that decision.

This has been one of the best investments i've made in my life, the money, time and brain cells i spent during the process were not in vain.

Thank you all developers out there!

If you like to connect with my node here it is :) it will for sure be running 24/7!

Ecstatic! Setting up a bitcoin / lightning node tonight on raspberry pi

    Posted: 31 Jan 2019 02:06 AM PST

I have the same thrill as I once did the first time I ran a small GPU mining node in 2011, and got those BFL Jalapenos cooking in 2013.
For any newbies still browsing here after 1 year of bearish market sentiment, I cannot recommend enough to take on this project. You know you've been thinking about it for a long time. Stop staring at the charts and jump onto the network! Get your hands dirty in code. I was able to get everything necessary for ~$80 sourcing some parts I already had. Following the brilliant guide by Stadicus who makes command line stuff super easy to understand https://github.com/Stadicus/guides/blob/master/raspibolt/README.md

    this is gentlemen!

Bitcoin Full Node on Ubuntu 18.04

    Posted: 30 Jan 2019 07:47 PM PST

Need help! I feel like I am missing something stupid small here. I am trying to run a Ubuntu based Bitcoin Full node. I am trying to run this on on a VM Box in VMWare ESXi 6.5. I have tried Ubuntu Desktop and Server 12.04, 14.04, 16.5, and 18.04. The VMWare box has been giving 6gb of ram, 1TB of storage, and 4 CPU Cores. All of them seem to have the same problem. They freeze my entire box. Usually, the freeze occurs while syncing headers but could happen even while trying to connect to neighbors.

I uses these scripts to install Bitcoin Core:

    sudo apt-add-repository ppa:bitcoin/bitcoin

    sudo apt-get update

    sudo apt-get install bitcoin-qt

Has anything heard of this before? I feel like I am late to the party but I cannot find a way around this.

What is the earliest use of the term Bitcoin Core and why is the official client not just called Bitcoin?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2019 12:13 AM PST

I set up a full node and I'm surprised to see bitcoin core written everywhere instead of just Bitcoin.

Kinda wish it just said Bitcoin. Is there a reason for this? Is the network bitcoin and the client core?
