Thread topics include, but are not limited to:

    • Discussion related to recent events
    • Technical analysis, trading ideas & strategies
    • General questions about altcoins

    Thread guidelines:

    • Be excellent to each other.
    • All regular rules for this subreddit apply, except for number 2. This, and only this, thread is exempt from the requirement that all discussion must relate to bitcoin trading.
    • This is for high quality discussion of altcoins. All shilling or obvious pumping/dumping behavior will result in an immediate one day ban. This is your only warning.
    • No discussion about specific ICOs. Established coins only.

If you're not sure what kind of discussion belongs in this thread, here are some example posts. News, TA, and sentiment analysis are great, too.

US Government Shutdown & Impact on Bitcoin - 2013 vs 2018?

    Posted: 12 Dec 2018 03:33 AM PST

The POTUS has indicated that he is willing to shut down the US federal government over a contentious policy element on December 21st, 2018.

In 2013 the US federal government was shut down for roughly two weeks over a funding dispute related to the Affordable Care Act. This occurred from October 1st to October 17th.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_federal_government_shutdown_of_2013

We also saw a significant bull run that started almost immediately after October 1st, 2013 and peaked around December 1st of that same year.

The question is - are these events coincidental? Typically I ascribe a risk-off attitude towards Bitcoin. I.e. if the stock market crashes I think people will flee to things like treasuries, cash, and high-grade bonds. In the event of a federal shutdown I'm not sure that Bitcoin doesn't necessarily become a hedge against governmental uncertainty.

    What are your thoughts?

Edit: Fun tidbit - the debt ceiling is currently suspended until March 1st, 2019. POTUS signed the suspension on September 8th, 2017.

    Proliferation of exchanges

    Posted: 11 Dec 2018 06:07 PM PST

I looked at CMC ranking for exchanges and I was surprised to see many new names that I never heard about

No1 is ZB thanks to strange activity on Stellar and Golem !!

No2 is BitZ never heard about them

No6 and after DigiFinex CoinBene Lbank (ZECETH !) BCEX IDAX BitForex etc...

Never heard of those. Even more strange a lot of those sites have exactly the same interface than existing more established exchanges (but which are farther in rankings) like OkeX or Liquid

So is it real volume or just wash trading ? BitFinex is 15 only and Bitstamp 36 !!! Wtf !!!

I personally think it's fake but that's what is reported by CMC and it doesn't help for the credibility of this market to be dominated by fake exchanges. Don't expect ETF anytime soon...

Anyone having tried those platforms please tell your experience about trading, size , liquidity , deposits withdrawals (crypto and fiat...) Thanks
