Unpopular opinion: Those who use bitcoin to buy drugs online are doing more for bitcoin than the vast majority of HODL's

    Posted: 20 Nov 2018 10:07 PM PST

I'm not the first person to say this and I won't be the last, treating bitcoin as an investment and leaving it in a wallet for years at a time does nothing for the coin or the community. As much as it puts a bad taste in congressional mouths and casts a dark shadow on bitcoin, people who use it to buy stuff on the dark net are using bitcoin for its intended purposes

    You know, as a currency?

Look, I get it, when you buy in at 10 grand you don't want to buy a hotdog with bitcoin at 4 grand, everybody's afraid of becoming the next million dollar pizza. But putting the coin in a wallet and doing nothing accomplishes nothing (except for added anxiety)

disclamer I'm not advocating for using bitcoin to buy illegal goods, just stating my thoughts on the matter

What happened the emphasis of spending bitcoin on this sub?

    Posted: 20 Nov 2018 05:10 AM PST

I've been in bitcoin since the beginning. I was watching when that dude bought the 10,000 btc pizza. I bought in at 16 cents, I bought in at $6000. I sold at $1300, I sold at $4000. Since then I've been largely inactive on this sub and in crypto in general.

I've made more than I've lost with BTC but the point was never about making money off an investment like a stock, it was about buying bitcoin so I could spend it. This sub used to get excited about more people USING bitcoin, now everyone's only concern is how much money they might lose. I think this sub has lost sight of what Bitcoin really is: a currency.

The owner of a $3 million palazzo in the heart of the capital city of Malta will only accept bitcoin for the sale of the property.

The world keeps on underestimating Bitcoin. The irony of these moments is inescapable. The size, strength, and financial commitment of the numerous small owners of BTC is greater than it has ever been, and its adoption, though nowhere near where it can be, has progressed steadily.

Ignore the price. Lightning network hits $2,000,000 capacity. This is a more important stat.

Right now *should* be when my friends ask me how to get into cryptocurrencies, but it's not. They'll wait for the next high. HODL strong, friends.

About $6.8 Billion USD volume on BitMEX might be the source of this selloff. Traders are buying with high leverage and get liquidated which pushes the price lower. Plus there are sellers of btc who also put downward pressure. currently 42.4% of btc volume is on bitmex alone..

How to Buy Bitcoin with Prepaid Cards

    Posted: 21 Nov 2018 04:11 AM PST

The average whitepaper is now over 12,000 words and growing. Bitcoin's whitepaper was 3,219 words. When will people realize that long, complex whitepapers are no substitute for ACTUAL PRODUCTS?

A lot of bitcoin haters in this sub right now, keep strong hold on!

    Posted: 20 Nov 2018 12:01 PM PST

People are making bearish arguments that could've been said years ago. Remember you don't want to concede to what the herd is doing, which is buying high and selling low.

With the Tether news and Bakkt launch delay, it seems indicitative that the sell-off that started on Nov 18th appears to be inside trading.

    Posted: 20 Nov 2018 01:07 PM PST

    So, basically business as usual.

I still don't buy that we lost 1k (20%) in total asset value because of a shitcoin hash-war. The more bcash suffers, the more likely that miners are going to abandon the shit show clown car and hop over to bitcoin to preserve ROI.

It seems much more readily apparent that the bigger fundamental news of Bakkt + DOJ Investigation into tethers is what caused this market spook.

    Thoughts?

Some of the brightest people on the planet are responsible for where Bitcoin/bitcoin is now. Some people do not seem to understand that the original Bitcoin is backed by the most powerful computer network in history.
