Seller Got An “All Bitcoin” Offer on His House

    Posted: 01 Oct 2018 06:52 PM PDT

I'm a real estate broker based out of Beverly Hills and work throughout LA. We got an asking price offer on a clients house that was all in Bitcoin. We are considering negotiating but I figured, as a longtime investor in BTC, I'd love to get some reddit feeback!

    Thoughts?

Please help us keep the Bitcoin (Arch Wiki) page clean from Bcash trolls

    Posted: 01 Oct 2018 02:32 PM PDT

They keep trying to add bcash content to confuse people and I have to revert those edits:

    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php?title=Bitcoin&type=revision&diff=545517&oldid=545452

Please help me fight the spam.

There were flamewars on the Discussion page in the past (check the history).

The person whose comment I reverted just added this comment: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Talk:Bitcoin#Links_to_software_packages

I cannot do this alone, so I need the help from all of you.

About me, I'm a Arch Linux and bitcoin user and I love them both, I don't like seeing the bitcoin page get hijacked by these people. So please help.

Child key derivation - size of child private keys - don't get it

I got this book about bitcoin, I'm trying to understand what's going on, but things don't quite add up for me...

I've included the portion of the book below, so you can see what I'm talking about.

It says the parent private key is 256bits. I hash the parent public key + parent chain code + i to get a 512bit hash. I take the left half (256bits) and add it to the parent private key (256bits)... so? that would be 512 bits then? But apparently no - it's just 256bits -- which kind of makes sense, because the parent private key was 256bits, so we would expect the child private key to be the same... but it doesn't add up for me. Can anyone explain pls?

Here's my two cents regarding the upcoming Bullrun everyone is anticipating

    Posted: 01 Oct 2018 08:57 PM PDT

A bull-run will initiate this year, but unlike last year, it won't run its full course until sometime within 1st quarter of 2019. Bitcoin will lead the charge and all other coins will follow, as expected. I believe one of the main drivers behind this run up will be due to BAKKT. The number of institutions participating in this new index will literally have no choice but to fill their inventory with Bitcoin before they are able to facilitate their services to the public. There's no quiet way for institutions to load up on bitcoin without causing an overall increase in volume and ultimately price. Sure, they can stagger their buys to be less obvious, but overtime there will be an overall trend increase that will become undeniable.

This increase in volume and price will inevitably generate FOMO in both individual investors, as well as your institutional ones. Despite having deep pockets, these corporations are no different then anyone else when it comes to trying to establish the highest profit margin possible. In other words, nobody is going to be sitting on the sidelines during the next run up. Especially when the world has seen just how high Bitcoin has already risen. Not to mention all of the prophetic-like price predictions placing bitcoin into the hundreds of thousands, even millions, in the distant future. Regardless of how improbable those projections may be; The fact of the matter is that there's no other coin right now that has a speculative ceiling higher than Bitcoin.

That said, I do believe the on ramp for allowing institutions into the crpto space is currently being developed now (BAKKT). Its about six months away from being fully realized. Once active, it will allow significant amounts of new money into the crypto space from Institutional investors which will raise the overall total market cap; While simultaneously aiding in legitimization efforts via everyday use and acceptance of the coin across the general population, primarily within the western markets. This will be achieved by way of the various resulting partnerships and products (Starbucks, Microsoft, ETFs, etc...) that originate from that project.

I don't know about anyone else but I can't wait to fast-forward to Jan 1 2019 to see where things are. Good luck to everyone out there!...

Malta’s Prime Minister makes ‘inevitable’ bitcoin prediction

    Posted: 01 Oct 2018 09:12 PM PDT

I love Malta – it is beautiful, the people are welcoming and it isn't, as yet, inundated with tourists every moment of the year (it will be soon though, you wait and see!). And, to add to everything, the country's Prime Minister, Joseph Muscat, is trying to establish itself as the world's "blockchain island" by extensively embracing bitcoin, cryptocurrencies and blockchain. To support just that, at the recent UN General Assembly Muscat spoke about blockchain technology and how it was the tool of the future, allowing bitcoin and crypto to become prevalent worldwide and garner mass adoption, going as far as saying it will become the future of money. Muscat has previously said he believes bitcoin and blockchain have the ability to eliminate third party service providers, giving users more freedom over information and money. In Muscat's words, "…By being the first jurisdiction worldwide to regulate this new technology that previously existed in a legal vacuum. Blockchain makes cryptocurrencies inevitable future of money. More transparent, it helps filter good business from bad business." What are your thoughts?
