    Current Profitable GPU mining coin

    Posted: 01 Aug 2018 08:19 AM PDT

Hey, been doing some digging into what currency is profitable for GPU mining. Wanted to know your opinions, I just want to set up a miner as a project on my home PC maybe in the foreseeable future will actually invest some money into a rig. Thanks:)

Didn’t even know what a GPU was at the beginning of the year! My 6x 1080ti rig (and cat)!

Do you guys mine and immediately swap to USD or hold?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2018 12:06 PM PDT

Trying to come up with a plan on taking profit. I was thinking cash out 10% to 20% everyone month hold the rest to see what happens. Along those lines, what's the fastest, most secure way to go from bitcoin to USD in your mind?

What needs to happen for things to get better?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2018 09:23 PM PDT

I only have been on nice hash for 4 months, and for me it's an experiment more than anything. For some of you, with ten, twenty, thirty, forty or even 50 video cards, your livelihood is on the line and we're getting close to that area where no one could make a cent over their electricity bills again. So rather than sit here and complain that life sucks, someone please tell me, simply, what needs to happen for gpu mining/nice hash/awesome miner etc to be great again? I got into it long after it was in the sh*tter and you guys keep saying OHH the golden age is over, no more lambos, because Bitcoin dropped...but then Bitcoin went up again, and I had a little bit of naive hope that things would get better, and now we're doing even worse, so how can things get better? I know I've only been doing this for a few months, but I'm a quick learner.

    - BTC Some people have said "look at how altcoins are tied to BTC" but then other people fire back saying "what? BTC and altcoins have nothing to do with each other" though the charts would dispute that immediately. They may not be the same but very few coins like Tether, aren't tied to BTC's success and failure. Lately I learned that if BTC rises faster than alt coins, that's a bad thing for gpu miners. So, do alt coins need to go up and BTC needs to go down? What would even make such a thing happen if all most investors care about is BTC?

    - What about Ethereum? The profitability has been getting closer and closer to other coins, for instance Equihash which was killed by ASICS for a time. Will another coin overtake Ethereum? We all want the alt coins to do well, but do we want one to do better over another?

    - How about buying/selling hashpower and switching algos vs direct mining. Is it bad at all for the "system"? if more people directly mined only one coin, would anything get better?

It's just that lately everyone cries, I sort of know why but I'm in a cloud of ignorance and I just want to know, what needs to happen? What's the next goal? What should we all wish on a shooting star for to happen? What can we do ourselves? As a community? I SAY WE FIGHT BACK...if we can.

How can I vent my rigs into my garage or elsewhere?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2018 05:29 PM PDT

https://imgur.com/a/9YJ41vj I just purchased a house and my mining rigs are making my basement too warm to be comfortable. I am planning on adding two more rigs and I can only imagine how much hotter it will be. I would like to vent the basement mining room into the garage. I'm good with electronics and computers but inexperienced with working with my hands. What kind of equipment do I need to do this and should I attempt this or hire a professional? I would like to vent out of some kind of tube with a fan. Should I use a bathroom exhaust fan? This fan will be running 24/7 and I would prefer to have a low wattage fan to keep electricity costs down. I am also worried of critters entering in the winter, how can I keep them out? Here are come parts I found on home depot. Am I in the right direction? https://www.homedepot.com/p/Suncourt-Inductor-6-in-Corded-In-Line-Duct-Fan-DB206C/206584745 https://www.homedepot.com/p/NuTone-50-CFM-Wall-Ceiling-Mount-Exhaust-Bath-Fan-696N/100081599 https://www.homedepot.com/p/Broan-Wall-Vent-Ducting-Kit-WVK2A/100626154 I have no idea what parts I actually need. Any help would be much appreciated!

I posted this in home improvement and thought you guys might have better solutions.

Quest to efficiency. Adding an Acorn to my existing rig.

    Posted: 31 Jul 2018 01:52 PM PDT

    Hello,

With the decrease in profitability and high electricity cost, I need to further optimise the efficiency of my rig.

Currently 880W for 161MH/s on Ethash.

I'm considering going down the road of a mix FPGA+GPU that is promising to boost GPU mining efficiency:

I'm not affiliated with squirrelresearch and this product is not available yet.

The boost is not publicly proven yet, so it's a bit of a gamble if it'll deliver the results.

    http://squirrelsresearch.com/acorn-cle-101/

This might be able to boost 2 to 4 GPU of my rig.

    I have 11 GPU currently:

    3 Zotac 1060 6Go. (2 Micron, 1 Hynix which is a bit of a lemon)

    3 EVGA 1060 6Go. (all Micron)

    3 PNY 1050ti (all Hynix)

    2 Sapphire 570 8Go (all Samsung).

My two Sapphire are 99% of the time mining Ethash when I'm using Nicehash. They are also the two best performers of the lot.

Therefore I'm interested to use the CLE-101 on those two, I can point to nicehash dagger stratum and use the dedicated miner instead of NHML.

Does some of you guys know if I should change something on my rig or I'm all good and just pop the acorn into it:

    1) Do I have to upgrade the ram, currently full with 2*4Go? probably yes, because Acorn need 4 Go of ram per accelerated GPU. My two slots are taken so these should be upgraded.

    2) Do I have to upgrade the CPU, currently a Pentium G4400? 11 PCI lanes out of 16 are taken by the GPUs at the moment, the acorn is taking up 4. I should be ok and have still room for 1 more GPU before upgrading the CPU right?

    https://ark.intel.com/products/88179/Intel-Pentium-Processor-G4400-3M-Cache-3_30-GHz

    3) I think that my Motherboard might not have the correct M.2 slot for the Acorn:

    https://www.asrock.com/MB/Intel/H110%20Pro%20BTC+/

http://squirrelsresearch.com/faq/ => "What is required for Acorn to work with my system?"

If I want to use acorn, I'll have to use the x16 slot with a PCIe to M.2 adapter or this board that could also be used to split the 16x into 4*4x but I don't know if my motherboard support this splitting :-(

squirrelsresearch only publish boost figure for 1 Acorn per GPU, but 1 CLE-101 could deal with 2 to 4 GPU, but they don't provide the boost figures in this situation.

    http://squirrelsresearch.com/faq/

Based on the efficiency boost for a single GPU worst case scenario, I should get :

    - up to 15% Hash rate boost for the 570 (24.5 in my case with unmodded BIOS) : 28,17 with the Acorn.

    - 60% of the power usage of the 570 (98Watts in my case at -50 Power): 59,1W with the Acorn.

I still have a lot to search and document to be able to grasp the exact cost that this upgrade could incur and the cost VS the benefit.

I think that this is a serious upgrade for an existing rig like mine that didn't though of this upgrade:

    - Added cost of one (or two) Acorn CLE-101 :

    - Added cost to upgrade the RAM from 8 to 16Go :

    - Added cost of one board Acorn Nest X2G (If my Motherboard allows it) :

    - Added cost of upgrading the CPU if I don't have enough support for the amount of PCI lanes (11 GPU + 2 Acorn):

Are you guys staying on the sideline of this project or have you already snipped a preorder?
