On This Day In History - Bitfinex Hack & HardForks

This time last year BTC traded at $2750. BCH was born & traded at $200, we recommended buying. This time 2 years ago Bitfinex was hacked. 120,000 BTC were stolen, worth $70M+. Losses were socialised as a 36% haircut & BFX IOU tokens issued. Many unaffected accounts were bailed in and lost dozens of BTC & 100s of ETH.

[Question] How does Ethereum network assign addresses?

    Posted: 04 Aug 2018 03:08 PM PDT

I am wondering that does Ethereum network have the similar technical way of generating addresses for users like BTC network has?

What I am aiming at that when I click on my ledger's BTC wallet's "Receive funds" button, I almost every time get a new address. Does that happen in ETH network also? At least for ledger in BTC, all addresses points to the same actual "main address".

And if that happens, is that address forever pointing to my account? In BTC it is.

Question: You can now create a card on the blockchain, what do you make? (Card as in anything, an ID card, a baseball card, a MtG card)

    Posted: 04 Aug 2018 06:31 PM PDT

Let say you can grab your phone or use an app, to make anything you want as an asset on the blockchain.

You can make a card, you can make an avatar, you can make it all without code, what do you make?

How to incentivize a smart contract DApp without issuing a native token?

    Posted: 04 Aug 2018 04:02 AM PDT

Hi! Premise: I'm still learning here so I apologize if my question is too basic.

My understanding is that technically a smart contract could be built using Ethereum blockchain... no need for native tokens, right?

Tokens are needed not for building the DApp's features but as an incentive for miners to use the platform, right?

If so, then would it be possible to build a Dapp without native token and still provide a good incentive for miners to use your DApp???

Can't get my ETH ledger adress on MEW.com

    Posted: 04 Aug 2018 05:19 AM PDT

    Hello,

    1. I purchased a ledgers nano s.

I plugged it and configured it normally and I created two adresses with Ledger Live app :

    • one for Ethereum
    • one for Ripple

I transfered cryptop correctly for these two adresses today.

    1. I can plug my ledger nano s into Augur app and see my ETH balance correctly

    2. I wanted to use the ledger with myetherwallet.com to get some ERC20 tokens, I followed this procedure : https://support.ledgerwallet.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005200009-Set-up-and-use-MyEtherWallet

but I can't see my ETH adress into MEW.com ==> I see many others adresses but not which I used to transfer my ETH first.

    1. I tried to restart my computer to be sure that no other app running using my ledger, but problem stayed.

Note : If I connect using chrome app "Ledger wallet ethereum", my balance is 0 ETH (like my real ETH used address is not recognized)

Note 2: I can continue deposit et withdraw to/from my ledger ETH adress

    Any suggestions please ?
