CNBC just skipped discussion with Brad Garlinghouse due to news in politics.

    Posted: 06 Mar 2018 03:04 PM PST

Every previous guest had it's piece, then they just dropped talking with Brad, because other "breaking" news took air time. Hilarious. Almost like someone wants to manipulate and just ignore certain cryptocurrency. And so disrespectful, I feel bad for Brad.

Ok, I have to be more precise: I don't mean it's a conspiracy, but looks really dubious and unprofessional.

Im interested in adopting xrapid and accepting XRP as payments for a licensed dispensary and manufacturing laboratory.

    Posted: 06 Mar 2018 11:59 AM PST

I was asked to make a main post about this after some discussion in the daily chat thread.

I started a cannabis dispensary delivery service in February 2015 and accepted BTC for an alternative payment method. This was great and achieved some awareness to crypto in general.

Fast forward to 2018, I'm an owner of a manufacturing lab and cannabis dispensary store front. (With access to many other dispensaries)

We currently have a network of over 400 cannabis distributors.

If you are unfamiliar with the cannabis industry banking has been our #1 issue. I've been through about 6 bank accounts myself over the last few years. Yes, these were licensed legal businesses that pay taxes. The banks just don't support cannabis at this point. (A few do, however most business owners do not have access) there is no banks in my area that work with licensed cannabis business.

Now onto accepting credit/debit cards. If I was even lucky enough to find a merchant to work with either of my businesses, they required at least a 4%+ charge per transaction. As an XRP holder and advocate, I know it's the better solution for us. Almost instant payments and cheap transaction fees.. where do we sign up? Is there a way to utilize xrapid to process credit/debit cards? How do we accept Xrp as an alternative payment? Is there a safe POS solution to accept Xrp for my businesses?

Thank you for your time. I'm looking for useful, helpful advice on the possibility of adopting XRP or xrapid with the cannabis industry.

    Posted: 06 Mar 2018 07:09 AM PST

I have only seen positive and encouraging news of xrp (which is cool) however, i still think looking at both sides of news about xrp would help people/investors.

Also, could we label such news reports.

    Purpose of investing in XRP

    Posted: 06 Mar 2018 06:59 PM PST

Just a few questions for informed Ripple reddit users:

    1. Why is Ripple selling XRP currency/ tokens on exchanges like Bitstamp if this is a technology primarily for banks and other institutions? Is XRP positioning itself as a store of value like Bitcoin hence the long term positions of most Ripple investors? OR is the XRP currency going to serve as a token of exchange down the track (buying a house, goods, services etc). In that particular case, why would anyone then trade XRP back into fiat currencies?

I am only asking because Ripple's vision fascinates me, but logically, I have questions as a result. Hopefully users here can provide insight. Thank you.

I've been stewing on this question for awhile.

    Posted: 06 Mar 2018 03:25 PM PST

    Hey all, I was wondering...

It seems all the banks are testing and using xRapid and xCurrent as platforms to process payments. I was under the impression that XRP was made for that.

So as an XRP investor, I'm left with the question. If banks are primarily using the other two platforms, then why would XRP jump in price? All the good news coming in the Ripple space about banks adopting the blockchain and all the "successful" tests, and you'd think people would be dumping their money into XRP, but the price has remained pretty stable since the sell-off a couple months ago.

So why will XRP go up?

How will the price of XRP be affected with increasingly larger amounts available?

    Posted: 06 Mar 2018 08:52 PM PST

This is a genuine question, not aimed to be any form of FUD. I really like the idea behind Ripple, especially since I sometimes do international transfers and it takes forever to complete (did a SEPA transfer for a specific purchase back in late January and the receiving bank only confirmed the transaction last week). If this has been answered elsewhere, I apologise in advance but I couldn't find the information so I thought I'd post it here.

One of the arguments for price increases of XRP is that it is in everyone's interest to increase the price of XRP since that decreases the amount you need to hold to do specific transactions. The reasoning here is that, to use the example that Ripple used, you couldn't buy a house with BTC when it was 100$ since the amount of BTC required was so large it would greatly affect the market.

At the same time, we have XRP being released to the public 1 billion at a time through the escrow accounts. We also have the coin burn that will start in order to, in my understanding, ensure a slight form of inflation.

Now, this might just be me not understanding how this works, but if we have more and more XRP going into circulation, wouldn't this decrease the price of XRP? With more XRP in circulation, shouldn't this mean that many more trades have to be facilitated in order for the price to increase? If a lot of trades with little currency available changes the price in the market significantly, by increasing the available currency you would decrease the effects it has on the price, essentially stabilising the price.

If this reasoning is flawed (and I'm sure it is but I can't find information on how) please point it out. The reason I'm asking is that if this reasoning is sound we should expect prices to roughly remain the same until all XRP is released should we not?

Using Ripple or XRP in your brand/domain name

    Posted: 06 Mar 2018 05:05 AM PST

    Hi All,

Have seen a few projects recently launch with a Ripple brand mark in their domain name.

As a general point of reference, see:

    https://ripple.com/brand-policy/

    Quote:

The following is a partial list of the trademarks owned by Ripple: Ripple, Ripple, Ripple Trade, XRP, the Ripple logo and the former Ripple Labs logo.

UNAUTHORIZED USE OF RIPPLE BRAND ASSETS

1 - No Registration or Domain Name: You may not register, in whole or in part, as a trademark, domain name or otherwise any Ripple Brand Asset or an alteration or derivative thereof. You may not use an identical or virtually identical Ripple trademark, in whole or in part, as a second level domain name.

    Unacceptable: Ripple-Gateway.com or BestRippleWallet.org

2 - Company, Product, or Service Name: You may not use, in whole or in part, any Ripple Brand Asset, or an alteration or derivative thereof, as part of a company name, trade name, product name, or service name. For the avoidance of doubt, you may not combine any Ripple Brand Assets with your name, marks or generic terms.

I just wanted to highlight to help out anyone thinking of creating a Ripple service / product:

    • If you use a Ripple brand mark in your service's name or domain name, you absolutely could face having your service sued or shut down.

As someone who has been purchasing domain names for over 20 years now, I just wanted to offer a simple piece of advice:

No matter whether you think you "might get away with it" or not, always always always avoid using someone else's trademark in your domain name. When the shit hits the fan, not only could it cost you money to defend yourself from a law-suit, when you have the domain taken off you - you will not be able to redirect it, and could overnight lose all your customers, traffic, SEO rankings etc, potentially irrecoverably.

I have also seen discussion that using XRP you might "get away with it" but Ripple's brand policy is pretty clear (see above) that XRP is also considered a brand mark and should not be used - unless you are happy to accept the risk your service could get shut down in the future.

At best you are relying on the goodwill of the owners and legal department at Ripple. They might not want to upset their userbase. But you cannot rely on goodwill, especially not long-term. See how WordPress (who have a pretty much identical domain/brand policy) have handled their brand name for example. Over the years many dozens of websites and services have been taken down for using "wordpress" in the domain name.

How much of a threat is SWIFT now that they are trying to stay competitive?

    Posted: 06 Mar 2018 10:07 AM PST

    https://qz.com/1217017/a-40-year-old-banking-co-op-is-overhauling-payments-without-using-blockchain/

Swift, the system that currently handles essentially handles most transfers today, is getting a shake up.

It seems like they wont be stepped on and are spear heading improvements to their system. Scary stuff if they manage to introduce a system that is basically a rebranded RippleNet to handle their current transfers, with little to no changes needed from the customer.

What do ya think? Not a shitpost, XRP holder here but its always good to be informed of all competition.

    Ripple and The XRP Effect

    Posted: 06 Mar 2018 01:40 AM PST

The writing is on the wall for coinbase to add Ripple.

    Posted: 06 Mar 2018 07:02 PM PST

Today was GREAT news for the crypto world and especially Ripple.

A lot of you may be disappointed we didn't hear about ripple being added to coinbase today, hell I'm a little sad myself that I didn't see it spike to $10+. We all just wanna make some money, right?!

To have ripple on the show with coinbase shows validity in this coin. It's going to happen this year. Coinbase is adding the Dow Jones of crypto and there's no way it will be a sufficient fund if it's only hosting a handful of crypto currencies. Institutions don't want to invest in volatility. https://www.cnbc.com/2018/03/06/bitcoin-exchange-coinbase-launches-the-dow-jones-of-cryptocurrencies.html

The host brought up the mention of how it was rumored coinbase will announce ripple today and they debunked it. I think with all the bitcoin cash scandal they had to do some damage control by posting that tweet to avoid insider trading again. It's entirely possible we keep getting these rumors debunked until people just eventually give up on it. That's when they add it.

I think it will be added as soon as we are near critical mass of 200 banks using xrps eco system.

Remember, coinbase CEO take a their image very seriously about how their exchange only deals with products that are proven and their exchange is safe. They don't want to be associated with shit coins. There's a lot of garbage crypto icos right now that will fade away.

When coinbase wants to add a new coin it's going to be like an IPO for crypto. Ripple is going to be there but they probably want to wait until they have the package deal. Bet you anything he told brad it will happen once everything is in order so it's beneficial for both of them financially.

TLDR just keep buying the dips it will happen in 2018. Just a matter of time.

Can online exchanges run on a blockchain?

    Posted: 06 Mar 2018 12:35 PM PST

This might seem like a dumb question and I did a quick search, but found nothing definitive. The blockchain is a ledger and I have to think an exchange would be considered a type of ledger, so the inherent security of a blockchain would seem to make an ideal argument. If the answer is yes, I would be very curious to see what the new SBI exchange will run on, especially considering its sole cryptocurrency at the beginning will be XRP.

Ledger Nano S update and vulnerability

    Posted: 06 Mar 2018 06:01 PM PST

Apparently there's a vulnerability in the "unhackable" Ledger Nano S and it was suggested to do the update and change the seed. That costs 20 xrp as there's no way to completely drain a wallet. I'm quickly falling out of love with this wallet.

Timeframe for adoption of XRP by major banks/companies

    Posted: 06 Mar 2018 02:45 AM PST

When do you (XRP holders) expect XRP to become adopted by major banks/institutions from Asia, Middle East, Europe etc? Obviously XRP is still being tested now by Western Union/MoneyGram etc, but how long will these tests go on before Ripple needs to know if bank/company is going to adopt XRP period. Around 2019-20?
