Market Makers will be the main holders of XRP. Not Banks

    Posted: 02 Mar 2018 05:15 PM PST

I often see the FUDsters try and use XRP's volatility as another reason why banks won't use it.

This is from XRPchat a few months back explaining how the volatility risk is removed from the banks:

"The main holders for XRP are market-makers (MM). Market-makers bridge currency pairs as well as XRP through arbitrage algorithms. To do that, they need to hold various currencies and XRP on the Ripple network (RCL). Profit in MM is greater with higher network utility, and will likely be very profitable given the volume of global remittance. While MMs themselves may be subsidiary of banks, it is more likely that they are managed like investment funds. Private investors will place money with these MMs (e.g. Japan-Asia MM Fund, India-Singapore MM Fund, Asia-Europe MM fund) for earnings. Therefore, the risk of holdings are placed onto investors in exchange for profit made from network utility through market-making. Addressing volatility: The percentage volatility is high today simply because the number of participants (holdings of XRP) is comparably low. This can, and will likely be addressed through higher participation and thus pricing. "

This is also a cool interview that Ripple did with an individual market maker way back in 2015 who made 7 figures from doing it:

Interesting statment by Mark Carney, Governor of the Bank of England about their core systems reorganizing to support distributed ledger technology

    Posted: 02 Mar 2018 03:07 PM PST

I saw Bloomberg's Stephanie Flanders interview on Bloomberg Technology TV today with Mark Carney, Governor of the Bank of England, so though I should share snippets of the interview and the anchor commentary that I've found particularly interesting with regards to Ripple:

-"(snip) What we're doing at the Bank of England is we're reorganizing the core of the system in a way that allows new payment providers to just plug-in. They could be using distributed ledger technology, they could be using other technologies. And we're in a position where these innovative so-called PSPs will be able to provide those kinds of services. You've seen similar innovations amongst banks in the US, other places, so this is coming.(snip)"

After the interview, Bloomberg's anchor Caroline Hyde commented (At 30:30):

-"(snip)We know for a fact that they have employed Ripple, they've been working with this intermediate ledger company Ripple to test out this sort of blockchain technology"(snip).

Here is the whole interview, starting at 26:00 - Caroline Hyde's insightful commentary starts at 30:30: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/videos/2018-03-03/bloomberg-technology-full-show-3-2-18-video

Xrapid approaching critial mass... Better rush in.

    Posted: 02 Mar 2018 08:44 AM PST

Every announcements that has happened in the last two months is institutions and banks testing xrapid. If you can't feel the institutional FOMO sentiment slowly building up in the space and keep going with stupid "but it's not using xrp" arguments well I think you don't even believe in Ripple s business plan and xrp itself and should leave your bags right now and miss what will probably be the biggest top 3 crypto pump to ever happen in crypto since the January one, because with that little commitment to an investment you're probably better off riding Twitter pump signal groups and bots.

All this good news - But what will trigger an XRP Price Increase?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2018 02:58 AM PST

The XRP price is consolidating at around 1 dollar.

We are witnessing a simply incredible amount of Ripple partners, testing/adopting their platform.

The question is - what will be the trigger of the next bull run to $5+? I suspect 1 of 4 things:

    1) XRP listing on Coinbase

    2) The first Very Large institution using xRapid

    3) Rate Hike/Stock market stagnation -- money cycle will move from Equity Mkts to Debt/Crypto markets in an attempt to chase yield

    4) Regulation of the Crypto space, providing safeguards for Institutional Investors that prevent mkt manipulation by whales/PnD groups

Every new adopter of xCurrent / xRapid just adds to an already large snowball at the top of a hill. That will soon start rolling.

The rollout/adoption stage of XRP in its simplest form has 4 stages:

    1) Partners trialling XCurrent

    2) Partners using xCurrent

    3) Partners trialling xRapid

    4) Partners using xRapid

The more partners -- banks / money transfer providers etc. for each step, the more chances that some of these will drip-feed to the next step.

Ripple have done an incredible job* making the transfer from xCurrent (not requiring XRP) to xRapid (requiring XRP) a flick of a switch, and cost effective for any institution.

This is why no adoption news is irrelevant, and just adds to the momentum that we will see when the price increase gets triggered.

Interested to see if anyone else has a view on what the eventual XRP bull run trigger / BTC/XRP flippening will be?

What to do with 548 characters private key ?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2018 03:14 PM PST

Hello guys, When the official Ripple Desktop was still around, I generated & secured XRPs on their offline wallet. I extracted a 548 characters file finishing with "==" to store it on a secure support. This is some kind of private key but I can't find anywhere to insert it. Most wallets ask for a secret key which is at most 34 characters long. What should I do with this file ? How to extract a shorter key from it ? What does it represent ? Would it be my private key encrypted with my passphrase ? Thank you for your support

A friendly suggestion for all of us

    Posted: 02 Mar 2018 03:30 AM PST

My English grammar is not that good, so please forgive me for my mistakes.

I am a holder since the beginning of the year 2017 and haven't sold any coins yet. I still believe in Ripple even after the huge price drop at the begin of this year. Why? Because I don't care about the price of XRP. I look at the progress that the company is making and the challenges it's facing. I think it's going to take a while before the products of Ripple are fully implemented and used by their clients. So it while take some time before the XRP has an underlying value. What in my opinion is very important for the future of the coin.

I also love this community but it bothers me that people expect an immediately increase in the price after a new post is published about a test that was completed successfully. I always wonder what made them invest in XRP.

Could we please discuss the development, the progress, the core business and the challenges of the company Ripple? That's much more relevant for all of us. If you have faith in this company you don't care about the price of today or tomorrow.

Ripple / XRP mentioned on Cash Show trivia app tonight

    Posted: 02 Mar 2018 07:27 PM PST

Not that it is very important, but a question on the Cash Show trivia app asked what cryptocurrency is associated with the company Ripple. Being a low-key XRP hodler since November 2017, I was surprised to see XRP referenced on something like Cash Show. #XRPthestandard

Also, if you play HQ trivia, check out Cash Show. It's far better IMO.

Having a problem with Toast Wallet

    Posted: 02 Mar 2018 10:42 AM PST

So I'm trying to get into Ripple because I honestly believe in it's potential more so than other coins. So I went to Coinbase and bought LTC and I figured I'd just use Shapeshift to convert it to Ripple but Everytime I've tried to convert it, it's saying that the address is invalid. I'm using the correct return address from Coinbase so I'm assuming it's the ripple address from the Toast Wallet that's the issue and I can't figure out what's wrong. Any help would be appreciated.

An interesting outlook on the stagnant price of XRP...

    Posted: 02 Mar 2018 09:18 AM PST

I know from an investing point of view, a stagnant price isn't a good thing since clearly you want a good return on your investment. BUT let's back it up a little bit and see the big picture:

One of the biggest critiques of the cryptocurrency market is how inconsistent prices can be and the instability in coin prices.

From the perspective of a more traditional investor (The Warren Buffets of the world) this is an excellent trait for an investment. Something that won't be massively dropping or unexpectedly hitting an all time high without some proper company/technological growth.

In my opinion...as long as Ripple is forming new partnerships and expanding their technology to new companies around the world, we are bound to win the long HODL, and the stability of XRPs price is an excellent trait to have for a cryptocurrency.

    That is all 👍

Mark Carney - BoE - Cryptoassets

    Posted: 02 Mar 2018 03:09 AM PST

The head of the Bank of England is on bloomberg talking about Cryptoassets in the banking sector right now.

    Takeaways/short comments:

    • Talking about how positive he is feeling for payments becoming quicker cheaper, and more transparent with Cryptoassets.

    • His comments are primarily describing ripple/ILP standards. Financial institutions being able to send and settle payments quickly. And allowing for financial institutions and others to plug in to the payment network easily, even if they aren't using blockchain.

    • Thinks that Cryptoassets currently may not be quite up to standard to meet these banking requirements right now.

    • Thinks that the cryptos that will survive will be those who embrace regulations.

    • No specific cryptos mentioned.
