Cracking a rotating multiround PCBC xor cipher

    Posted: 02 Mar 2018 07:38 AM PST

A friend who is studying cryptgraphy sent me 8 128bit binary files today. He said he made a xor cipher in python, by the looks of it, it's a PCBC mode cipher. He said the messages were all encrypted by the same key but different iv's. After analyzing the source code it seems there is no diffusion but only a little bit of confusion.

So that brings me to my question. How would i go about cracking this. I've never done cryptoanalysis before but i want to learn.

The source code can be found here

    Thanks

    Using PKI Certificates at home

    Posted: 02 Mar 2018 04:41 PM PST

    Hi,

Tl;Dr: Can I wipe a credit card's microchip, and then write my own PKI certs (or something similar to PKI - cursory googling said PKI is some good letters), and then use that to sign emails, log into my computer, encrypt things, etc...?

As some of you, all of you, or none of you may know, the DOD uses smart cards to log into all of their computers. I do stuff with the DOD, and therefore use a snazzy little card to log into the computer, digitally sign/encrypt emails, and all that.

I like it, I think it's some swell technology.

I see similar technology in credit cards, at least it looks similar, but I do not know a lot about stuff. I have enough knowledge of computers that my parents and friends think I'm nearly a god, but also little enough knowledge that anybody who actually works in the field knows that I know very little.

As noted in that tldr above, I'm looking to make my own system. I'm not asking you guys to do legwork, but I'm hoping/assuming SOMEBODY here knows IF IT IS POSSIBLE.

Is it possible? If yes, can somebody please tell me some good starting points to begin my research. I don't really even know where to begin - when I search online I get "technewz" articles about how credit cards work. I know the info I want is out there, I just don't know how to start asking questions to get what I want.

    I appreciate the help.

    Have a good evening!

note: I'm totally fine buying a $15 card on amazon if that's the only option - but even from there I'd appreciate a few pokes towards the starting line so I don't get lost in the woods

Need help in my bachelor's thesis

    Posted: 02 Mar 2018 12:52 PM PST

    Hi!

I'm a complete beginner and I have to write around 40 pages of comparison between two systems. I would like to find two that have many literature about it, because it would be my bachelor's thesis. I would also appriciate it if you could point me towards some examples of what basis to compare them on.

Thanks for your help in advance, anything is appriciated
