Bitcoin Cash is not a scamcoin. Clearing up the FUD. (crosspost /r/cryptocurrency)

    Posted: 06 Mar 2018 09:22 AM PST

    Definition of a scam :

    a dishonest scheme; a fraud.

First of all, let me start with off with this. No one wanted Bitcoin Cash to exist, no one wanted another Bitcoin subreddit to exist (/r/BTC).

This is how Bitcoin Cash was forked off & the reasons.

In 2015, the plan was made by the Bitcoin Core developers and the community supported it. This plan was to increase the blocksize. He said in 2015, 2MB now, 4MB in 2 years, 8MB in 4 years then re-assess.

The plan was very simple. Increase the blocksize, lower fees for everyone, more transactions possible. But this changed in 2015.

The Moderators of /r/Bitcoin, particularly theymos who not only controls /r/Bitcoin but also Bitcoin.org and BitcoinTalk.org, decided to censor pro-bigblocks supporters (which was technically everyone because no one knew of any other solution that would work right now). The effects were there. Bitcoin users left in 2017 as the fees rose too high, while the others remained hoping that a solution would be found or they shifted to BCH or other coins.

This led to BTC losing their market cap percentage and led to other altcoins to rise.

Core developers have said that Segwit and Lightning is going to solve the problem. Lightning was said in 2015 December to be released in 2016 1, 2.

Segwit is not a long term solution and will weaken Bitcoin's security. It allows more transactions but it is irreversible. You can't go back to non-Segwit after using SegWit.

Lightning is very centralized and complicated. It requires you to be online 24/7, have your private keys connected to the Internet and requires you to first do an on-chain transaction to open a channel.

To even get the community to believe that lightning and segwit is a solution, they had to censor the main channels (/r/Bitcoin, Bitcoin.org and BitcoinTalk.org)

OpenBazaar dev explains why they aren't adding Lightning

Bitcoin Cash is not BCash, B Cash, Bcash, Bitchcash, Bitcash, BTrash. It is Bitcoin Cash (BCH). This and this is Bcash, this is BTrash

BCH is not controlled by the 'Chinese' or 'Jihan'. A substantial amount of mining is done outside of China. The same can go for BTC, where BTC has got about 70% of their mining done in China.

BCH was not forked off by Roger Ver or Jihan Wu, they are only promoters, investors and people that create products for Bitcoin Cash. BCH was forked off by a group of miners including Amaury Sechet.

BCH is entitled to using the name bitcoin because it has the genesis block in it and because it is loyal to the original Satoshi whitepaper where bitcoin was first mentioned/coined.

BCH can definitely scale on-chain at least for sometime. Right now at 24 TPS. It can scale with bigger blocks. Centralization will not occur. Satoshi already mentioned that big servers with hashpower would be the ones mining while users will remain users. SPV is a solution for users, while miners will run a full node (copy of the blockchain and hashpower), while business, hobbyists, researchers and others can choose to run SPV or relay nodes (nodes that have the copy of the blockchain but do not have hashpower at all)

Roger Ver raging publicly or being a felony isn't an argument to say that BCH is controlled by him.

If you don't like BCH, it does not make it a scam. Just don't use it.

If you find Roger Ver or Calvin Ayre a controversial figure, that also does not make BCH a scam.

If you find Coinbase expressing their support towards BCH, that does not make it a scam.

If you know that there's a better coin in your opinion, that does not make it a scam.

TL:DR : Bitcoin Cash is not a scam because no one is being robbed. It was forked off because Bitcoin's development was hijacked by Bitcoin Core. Fees were getting high and solutions that aren't out yet were being proposed, while a solution that's ready isn't proposed. If you don't like it, simply choose not to use it.

edit : edited a paragraph to clarify it more in depth.

Absolute new-comers, ask your questions here!

    Posted: 06 Mar 2018 08:41 PM PST

I'm putting together a Frequently Asked Question's portion of the website project I'm involved with that helps absolute new-comers and even people that don't have access to smartphones get started with Bitcoin Cash (BCH). (http://startbch.com).

So if you are TOTALLY, UTTERLY new to Bitcoin, and even Cryptocurrency, and even "magic internet money"... hell, even if you're new to computers... here is your chance to ask literally anything about this stuff. (And even if you're semi-new but unsure, or have been around awhile but still a little uncertain...ask away!)

There may be some mean trolls lurking but its the same on every subreddit, just ignore them.

So, don't be afraid of asking a question, because there aren't any dumb questions, every question on this thread is important and hopefully we can answer it for you.

So new people (I know you're out there) ask away!

bigger blocks = more txs = larger mining rewards = more miners = more security = more market value

    Posted: 06 Mar 2018 12:48 PM PST

Lightning makes mining fees much less over time which deincentivizes hash power from securing btc, inevitably moving more and more hash power to bch over time with bigger and bigger, ever more profitable blocks for miners. If lightning does take off, blockstream will successfully kill the mining industry...for btc....

And its clear that developers have more possibilities with bch than with btc simply because the smaller tx fees of bch allow it.

Finally, smaller fees do matter to users, and over time they will prefer it over the artificially high fees of btc.

    Any questions?

So much has happened since I bought my first bitcoin bch only 3 months ago.

    Posted: 06 Mar 2018 04:31 PM PST

Aside from my main occupation, I used to trade EURUSD/JPYUSD and kept an eye on crypto charts just in case. I had done only 3-4 ethereum trades back in May-July.

The first time BCH caught my eye was when the big swing in Nov 12 happened, it made me think but there was no place to buy it (I don't use crypto exchanges) and I had no time to dig deeper. Then, in late November I saw a tweet from Falkvinge explaining how bch is set to takeover the market and only those who do not see the writing on the wall (he used that exact expression in the thread of tweets I saw) will be left bagholding btc. That's when I realised something important is going on here. I had no idea what blocks where or mining consisted of. I learned all that stuff later. I was only familiar with the bitcoin core being outdated narrative (for payments) because of some research I had done when buying ETH and because of what I had heard from people using btc.

At this time (feels like I'm talking of decades ago lol) BCH was listed nowhere except of Bitfinex I think (even Bitstamp didn't have bch), it was almost impossible to find a place to buy it, the Coinbase listing felt like an impossible dream (I still remember how far fetched it felt) and Bitpay seemed to not favor bch. Price was doing its thing oscillating between 1000 and 1300. There were news of big bitcoin funds selling their bitcoin cash holdings every day, which got me worried, because I know they do a lot of research. But then the true reason became clear, a lot of these funds were legally obliged to sell their bitcoin cash holdings. Anyway, to do my bit I started accepting bitcoin bch on my niche app (did a post here about that). I was also constantly trying to get more merchants to adopt it and was spreading the word myself when/where I could (locally). Things were moving slowly in the right direction, I was optimistic but also prepared to wait for bitcoin bch to penetrate the market. Adoption takes time, we all know that.

But then everything happened so damn quickly that it was mind blowing. First the Bitstamp listing (which started off as "Bcash"), then the Bitpay announcement which I personally didn't expect at all. Then the Coinbase tweet which was like a dream I couldn't believe it was really happening (considering also an interview of their CFO or something who seemed sceptical to me). Today all that adoption cycle went full circle with merchant implementation on Bitpay (and Coinbase the past weeks). I love that fee comparison showcasing the superiority of bitcoin bch black on white!

It's been one hell of a ride and now another cycle begins. I think this phase will be about use in bcommerce and will ultimately lead in a boost of transaction volume. The next inflection point I see in the horizon is how BCH handles that volume. If performance is preserved and fees stay low then nothing can stop BCH from becoming the currency of the world. I have a feeling that that's exactly what's going to happen!
