Just wanted to say bigup to you all, mining as most of you know can be lonely. Especially with most people not having a clue as to what we do. For that reason, and others, it's great to have this community. I've learnt so much and been able to shoot the shit in something that we all find fascinating. And for that. I thank you!

    PSA: Power safety

    Posted: 02 Feb 2018 11:52 PM PST

We could use a guide on power safety in relation to circuit breakers linked in the side bar. Looking at safety recommendations I feel like they forget to be mindful that msi afterburner may fail on startup and your rigs may mine at a higher watt then you were planning on reboot.

My rigs that mine at 840+watts if msi fails on start up will start mining closer to 1200Watts. If your already at max utilization on that circuit you may be entering the danger zone.

Every single coworker in my office is now hunting GPUs... miners, gamers, and ebay flippers

    Posted: 02 Feb 2018 11:15 AM PST

It struck me pretty quickly how we aren't just fighting other miners, but gamers and ebay flippers as well.

    In my office....

    2 GPU miners

    4 gamers

    11 ebay flippers

When nowinstock shoots out an email, every one of our heads drop down and we tap furiously on our phone. It's funny, but sad too.

    Which way to point fan?

    Posted: 03 Feb 2018 08:11 AM PST

For cooling off GPUs should I point the fan at and over/through the HDMI/DP/VGA/DV-I ports or from the other side?

No luck. Gpu backside doesnt heat up. Yeah i had the latest display drivers and a gold rated 1000 watt psu.

1050ti only getting 20 h/s on equihash. why?

    Posted: 03 Feb 2018 07:30 AM PST

Temperature is only in the 50s, Mai afterburner shows the memory clock is only at 405mhz and adjusting the setting isn't changing it. The other 5 video cards are working fine

GPUs were all gone when I decided to start mining, went with a Alienware Aurora desktop and two 1070 TIs.

    Posted: 02 Feb 2018 06:59 PM PST

About mid 3 weeks ago I decided mining sounds fun. Looked at ASIC miners and saw the crazy mark up and wait time. A friend said he was making about $9 per day on his 1080 cards. So I went off to find some GPUs. Nothing out there, so I bought an Alienware Aurora with two 1070 TIs. I was told 1070 TIs were getting the best SOL/W when I built the desktop. Paid $1800 for the desktop. (my wife would be pissed, shhhh) I am using equihash to mine Zcash. MSI afterburner to set my power to 66 on both cards. I have the two case fans set at 40% rpm. This keeps the GPUs temps at 64-66 C, not overclocked. My sols are at 920. In a 24 hour period the tower only uses 7.2 KWH from the wall that costs me 57Cents. The cards are making $5.10 per 24 hours. ROI is not good on it but I am not looking at it like, needed a new computer and now I have one that will pay for a new game every month. That would be a great marking campaign for Alienware, "The new Alienware PC will buy you one new game every month."

So far only issue I have is there is some stupid software that sets the sleep mode on the computer to 1 min every night.

TLDR: Bought a Alienware desktop to mine and pay for new games.

How to plug 6 vega56 to corsair hx1200?

    Posted: 03 Feb 2018 05:26 AM PST

    Hi guys,

I already built a rig with 6 Vega 56 powered by a 1600W EVGA PSU. It is stable and consumption is around 950W at the wall. I am building a 2nd one powered by a 1200W Corsair PSU but I don't know how to plug all 6 cards. The PSU has 6 8-pin plugs and 1 is taken by the CPU. How can I proceed to power the 6th card?

    Cheers

So i was wondering if anyone else's nanopool says that their workers are offline, but they are still running? It says its offline for the past 5 hours, but it shows shares being accepted by it.

    Choosing a server PSU

    Posted: 02 Feb 2018 10:47 PM PST

Can someone give input on how to choose a server PSU ? I have a 220 v outlet and looking for a 2500-2700w PSUs. Would something like this one work? Does it work with a breaker board? Do all server PSUs work with breaker board like one from Amazon ? https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F351492591361

    EVGA 1200w PSU

    Posted: 02 Feb 2018 07:07 PM PST

Note to self : Whenever changing GPU's on a miner, replace ALL cables with the cables that arrived with the GPU.

I thought I could save time and if the cable fit, it stayed zip-tied! 4x 7950's and an hour and a half later, my rig was updated.

Went to plug it in... nothing.
No fan, no sound, no lights, the sweet sweet silence of "wait.. is this plugged in?" yes, yes it was.

Started RMA process assuming it was DOA, went to work today and couldn't stop thinking about it. "Chances of it being DOA.. that can't be the issue... not this time!"

Reading around online, I started to think maybe one of my motherboard mount screws was grounding on my rack. Eventually get around to trying the Mobo power cable that came with the PSU, suddenly the PSU fan spins!

    Okay...

Well, what else would stop it from powering.. The CPU cable??

So I swap that! Sure enough! The Mobo powers on now!

Next was "okay mobo has power... but no video cards are spinning up.."

Come on.. really!? I'm already using the video power cables that came with the PSU because I needed the 8 + 6 pin on each card.

But.. my PCI adapters are still using my old PSU's sata power cable and molex power cable for fans.

    FINE, I'LL SWAP IT ALL!

    Another hr later

    Boots up like a champ.

If anybody happens to know, are all PSU makers this way? Or just EVGA? I don't think I've ever run into this, though I have not had to swap many PSU's either.

    Powering 1080 Ti's

    Posted: 03 Feb 2018 03:01 AM PST

I've got 8 1080 Ti's either arrived or on the way. Right now my plan has been to power 2 of them with 850W PSU's to account for electricity the risers use as well.

I'm assuming/planning for a 100% card draw of 250W each (I'm undervolting, but I don't account for this in my calculations in case the software fails) and while initially I was giving myself some leg room by using 850W, I'm now wondering if I could get away with 750W.

80% of 750 is 600, so assuming 500W from each pair of cards easily puts me under that. Then factoring in power from the risers from the guide: 512=102(avg) or 642=128(peak) puts me at 628W for 83% of a 750W PSU's capacity.

Obviously this is very close to the 80% rule and it would only be in the event undervolting fails but I want to know if everyone else thinks it would be a safe way to power everything.

If I missed any extra power draw definitely let me know!
