Need a Little Help with Tokens and Coins Posted: 24 Feb 2018 10:20 AM PST I'm getting more and more confused. I've been researching and reading about this but feel like you guys can explain better than anyone. So here's my situation. I received some tokens from a faucet. I have them in a cipher wallet. I am interested in eventually getting them over to my coinbase wallet. I've read countless items on how to do this. Here is what I've tried. I transfer the tokens from cipher to MEW. They show up fine. All is good. I then try to go to EtherDelta. I link the MEW with the address and private key. The balance of the wallet is not showing up in EtherDelta. That's the first issue. Once that gets resolved, will it be possible within EtherDelta to exchange/convert/trade for ethereum currency and then ultimately get it back out and over to coinbase? I'm sorry if that sounds ridiculous or if I am missing a major part of this whole process. I appreciate any help or words you can provide and I will be standing by this post to answer any follow on questions you may have. Thanks a million. [link] [comments]
I am proud to be part of this community! Posted: 24 Feb 2018 03:55 AM PST Michael Wuehler, Infura: "One of the things that makes the Ethereum community different: Everybody, even if they're working on potentially competing projects, works together to figure stuff out. It goes against the capitalist, startup world where everyone's trying to beat out everyone. I've never seen anything like this in any other crypto-community this large." As an Ethereum developer myself, I definitely agree that our community ( with our spectacular leader Mr. Vitalik Buterin /u/vbuterin ) is a good place to grow and learn. If you get stuck on a problem, there is always someone who is willing to lend a hand. Long live Ethereum protocol! [link] [comments]

Is there any application of an ERC20 token where ether itself couldn't be used instead? Posted: 23 Feb 2018 11:20 PM PST Maybe this has already been discussed somewhere but I haven't found it. I'm just looking for ONE good example of a use-case where ether could not be used in the place of an ERC20 coin (or a good reason for not wanting to use ether). The real question I have is, why is any currency built on Ethereum (besides ether) necessary? If a use case requires currency, why not just use ether? Wouldn't that be more efficient than creating 10,000 different tokens for 10,000 different use cases? The analogy I give is, if I need fuel for my car, does it make sense to have to buy shell coin to fill up at a Shell station, and Chevron to fill up at a Chevron station? That's what ERC20 coins feel like to me. What am I missing? [link] [comments]
