    Global Market Cap Technical Analysis

    Posted: 22 Feb 2018 08:48 PM PST

(No FUD intended.) I believe in the power of charts as a tool. If you care about your investments and use technical analysis, you have reason to be worried about the market as a whole. Basically, if you look at the global market cap over the past 3 months, you can see a huge head and shoulders pattern. For those of you who don't know, head and shoulders patterns are very reliable bearish indicators. The neckline is where we currently stand at around $420 billion. The shoulders are around $600 billion and the head is at the peak of $800 billion. To be blunt, if we don't get above $600 billion soon, we could be facing an actual bear market. And I don't just mean two months, I mean at at least half the year. This is further substantiated by Bitcoin's failed breakout at $11,300.

Negative implications: This looks scarily similar to a possible bubble burst. If this does happen, many of the FUDers in the mainstream news will be proved right. People will lose a lot of money, and even those invested in cryptos with real-world applications will lose a huge portion of their portfolio value. For educational purposes, I would be in fiat or set stop losses underneath Bitcoin's next support level at around $9300. We need a substantial run-up very soon.

Positives: On the other hand, if you look at Bitcoin's (BTC) 4-hour chart, you can see a large inverse head and shoulders pattern forming. If Bitcoin finds support at around $9300 and bounces, we could see Bitcoin return to its former glory of $15,000+. This would also save us from the head and shoulders pattern and lead us to new all-time highs. If we do enter a bear market, you will likely see the end of hundreds of shitcoins. After the downfall, the most reliable coins - mainly in the top 20 - will capture a much larger market share and grow sustainably in the long run.

TL;DR As it stands, BTC is trading at about 9800 and hit a low of $9580. Unless we see substantial buying volume soon, things will get messy quickly and we'll be heading into a long bear market. Many shitcoins will die, but if Bitcoin rebounds well, we could see $15,000+ again very soon.

Small update: Bulls tried to make a comeback and got smoked at $10,000 resistance level. Back down we go. Now it looks like the 50 EMA wants to cross under the 200 EMA. Major yikes.

Top Weekly Crypto Picks: Futureproofing your portfolio

    Posted: 22 Feb 2018 12:04 PM PST

Gday all, it's been a while since I've shared my weekly crypto picks and by popular demand and with the latest hiccup in the latest hiccup in the market, now is a great time to pick up some cheap crypto. You'll notice compared to many of my previous posts, I haven't included many trading picks. This is mostly because in market downturns, I tend to retract into my core picks as they seem to rebound quicker.

Shout outs to all you cool cats who have shared in previous threads No single person (myself especially) can find and invest in every golden project out there. Our dedication as a community helps both the reddit hivemind and individual investors to find quality projects, weed out the shitcoins and keep ourselves in a balanced headspace when investing.

    My methodology

Personally I only invest in coins with:

    • Solid and usable technology

    • Clear future use-case

    • Transparent researchable team

    • Evidence of active GitHub or code or working product

    • Token has value within the project (inherently part of the ecosystem)

But most importantly the golden rule:

    • Never chase pumps and hold the dips - All coins will experience ups and downs, but if you invest in solid tech you've built on a strong foundation.

    Core picks

These are the projects I believe have proved themself worthy of the long hold. I liken them to bluechip shares, they will hold (relative) value through dips but still have the potential to increase exponentially with adoption.

    • Ethereum - Eth is my primary store of value coin. As the most widely used second gen blockchain (DApps + currency), Ethereum is a fast and cheap currency with plenty of futureproof potential, especially with Proof of Stake on the way. Can't go wrong with Ethereum

    • IOTA - IOTA is a DAG based data-network built for machine to machine transactions, where you complete proof of work for 2 other transactions before yours is processed. This means it is (psuedo)-feeless and scalible. IOTA is quite controversial and because of that it's price fluctuates a lot, however I find it quite unfeasible that Bosch, Volkswagon and others would consider investing in IOTA if it didn't possess potential. As such IOTA is one of my biggest % holdings.

    • NEO - Smart contract and do-it-all platform. NEO biggest asset is it's extensive developer base. Often refered to as chinese ethereum with good reason.

    • OmiseGo - OmiseGo is the blockchain project which will process all real-world transaction data for SE-Asian financial giant Omise. OMG token holders will be rewarded dividends from all transactions going through the blockchain. Most importantly is OMG's developemtn team, which includes multiple members of the core Ethereum development team, including brain-child Vitalik himself. OMG will be the first project to utilize Eth's plasma technology which increase transactions volumes and speed exponentially.

    • Request Network - Since my last post, REQ saw a massive price increase followed by an almost equally massive drop. While we all wish we could catch the top of those pumps, REQ is still a long-term hold for me. REQ is much more then a payment solutions and button on a website. Request Networks aim is to create a full suite of auditing, finance and payment software powered by the blockchain. Releasing their mainnet will only be the first step for REQ positioning itself as a financial specalist of choice in the future.

    • Factom - Another month and no more Factom news, but still I hold. Factom is a token which builds off other blockchains to store financial contracts and data. Multiple grants from Dept of Homeland Security and Bill & Melinda Gates foundation. Working with Linxens (one of the largest RFID and passport manufacturers in the world) on Smart Identity products. They already have multiple Fortune 100 customers that will be annouced in Q1 2018 who are already implementing their products. Just over a month until the end Q1 so hopefully next post will have some good news to share!

    Trading picks

    • Vechain - Vechain us a blockchain solutions project with core target is eliminating counterfieting through integrated RFID and blockchain technology. With their appointment of billionaire investor Jim Breyer and global partnership with transport giant DNV GL, not to mention one of the worlds largest tobacco manufacturers which is backed by the Chinese governemnt. Vechain rebranding is scheduled for 26th Feb with their mainnet due to launch sometime in the near future

    • Nano - Nano (formerly Raiblocks) is a digital currency that does one thing exceptionally well: transfer value very fast with no fee. Raiblocks rise to crypto darling in December followed by it's fall from grace (primarily due to BitGrail issues) has left an unwarranted bitter taste in many investors mouth. Fundamentally Nano is still the same product it was in December with all the same usecases and it now boasts a wildly more experienced developer team then it had before. I still think Nano has good potential and the team has acted professional and diligent through all the FUD.

    • Stellar - Previosuly a core pick, however I was quite disappointed with the delay of Fairx exchange. Stellar has great potential moving forward and I haven't fully exited my position, I have just started looking for gains elsewhere ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    • Nebulas - Nebulas is an open-source multi-data-type platform for everything blockchain, including smart contracts. NAS has a live testnet now with Mainnet launching in Q1 2018. NAS has a high-profile team with devs from both Google, MIT and more. Often misconstrued as a search-engine only, NAS also provides utilities for blockchain contracts to be re-written, something which currently technology does not allow.

    • Chainlink - Chainlink will provide decentralized oracles which connect crypto and the real world. Chainlink is already working with SWIFT (global banking communication company) and has had companies such as AXA insurance, Sony and others. Lead dev Sergey also just announced their live alpha release at the Annual Blockchain Conference. If smart contracts are ever going to provide real-world meaningful use-cases, projects like Chainlink are critical for wide-spread adoption.

Feel free to share below what you are trading this week!

New trader's question: How exactly does Bitcoin fluctuations affect other coins pegged to other currencies? (i.e. smaller coins pegged to ETH or other coins)

    Posted: 22 Feb 2018 05:36 AM PST

Hello! Im trying to figure out how major coins interact between each other and affect the smaller ones, for example when BTC falls it drags down other coins pegged to BTC. What happens though to coins pegged to Ethereum or USDT? Normally they should be unaffected but in effect, they follow the course of Bitcoin(?). Why does that happen? If one could explain the mechanism of action and not a brief 2 line explanation, i would be grateful. Also this is the best way i could explain my question since it seems so confusing right now that i don't even have a straight question figured out... Anyway, thanks!
