The community needs to distance itself from Bitcoin ABC

    Posted: 20 Feb 2018 04:16 PM PST

It seems that the last couple of upgrades have gone less than smoothly due to developer friction. It seems that is starting up again.

Bitcoin Cash is blessed with four strong development teams including two clients that have been around for many years and have brought a lot of great new technology to Bitcoin.

I think I speak for many users when I say that I'm not comfortable with the possibility that Bitcoin Cash could collapse back into a dictatorial reference client mentality.

For me, the biggest bug that Bitcoin ever had was centralized development. There's only one way to ensure that there is no reference client, and that is client decentralization.

If you're running Bitcoin ABC, I encourage you to run another distro instead. For me I think I'm going to support both XT and BU until I see a little more give and take among the developers.

Each implementation needs to get comfortable leading, and each implementation needs to get comfortable following.

I don't mean to disparage Bitcoin ABC or its team, merely to highlight that the best way to keep the playing field level is to level it.

To the people who thing we urgently need to add in OP_GROUP as soon as possible to BCH to progress.

    Posted: 20 Feb 2018 10:46 PM PST

While making progress is great and improving protocol compatibility is a great goal, you have to consider downsides as well and risks. If BCH were to enable a code that was not tested or fully ready, and it caused disruption to the network, this would setback trust and reputation quite significantly. So please consider the downside and weigh all possibilities before insisting we need to add a certain feature at a certain deadline (May HF for example)

Because of Coinbase Commerce we added Bitcoin Cash to our store a few days ago! Everything's going smooth, we love it.

I reached out to all the restaurants in my area accepting crypto according to coinmap.com; none of them accept crypto anymore. Why?

    Posted: 20 Feb 2018 01:25 PM PST

Hey there. So I have been in this entire crypto thing since late 2014, early 2015. Back then I was a minor, so I did not get to buy crypto, so I could not get rich. I also could not go out and spend it somewhere, even tough in my local city about nine restaurants and cafés accepted crypto (mostly BTC but also LTC). Today, I have some left over cash sitting in an exodus wallet on my computer and a mobile wallet ready to go. So I went on coinmap.org and checked. Still there, nothing changed. That's odd, I thought, and wrote a short E-Mail to all of them.

None of them still accept any form of crypto. Most said nothing, those who did give a reason said the public interest just wasn't there.

My question to you guys: How did this happen?

How can I as an individual change that, so I can buy a coffee or a sandwich from a local shop with the money of the future-and-kind-of-right-now?

Is there a well-known alternative to coinmap I don't know about and where all the new buissinesses are?

    Thanks in advance!

    EDIT: its coinmap.org

I have plans to make a hardware wallet

    Posted: 20 Feb 2018 08:10 PM PST

So how the wallet would work is you would first make a transaction on a device (in my case my phone) than scan the unsigned transaction because electron cash let's you do that and the program on the raspberry pi would sing the transaction and display the qr for the dined transaction on a oled I have tried this and it would work (I have not made any code for it yet) but I will probably need more people to work on it with me. The reason for this wallet is it would be cheap and be good for day to day use (work with a mobile devices )

No quadratic signature problem --> unlimited tx sizes?

    Posted: 20 Feb 2018 10:31 PM PST

I was just looking through the Bitcoin-ABC source code for how signatures are done, and I realized that the new signatures are way better than the original satoshi signatures. Namely, they are linearly scaled to number of inputs! Good job guys, I didn't even realize this until now. :-P

If I recall right, the 100kb limit on transaction size was due to the quadratic scaling problem in the original signatures. I guess that means Bitcoin Cash doesn't need a tx size limit anymore?

Cryptonize.it introduces Cryptonized Cash, supports the OP_GROUP proposal and calls for a discussion on decision making regarding development.

    Posted: 20 Feb 2018 09:07 AM PST

Currently, our blocks are too empty. Transaction volume is low and honestly, it's plain embarrassing that Bitcoin Cash is supposed to compete with fiat but has less transaction volume than a lot of alts.

We need more utility to make Bitcoin cash again. That's why cryptonize.it is in support of enabling OP_GROUP as soon as possible and will demonstrate a clear use-case to use the additional functionality to increase transaction volume by introducing Cryponized Cash.

If you are not familiar with OP_GOUP, please read this, written by Andrew Stone /u/thezerg1

From now on, every customer with an account on cryptonize.it will be awarded Cryptonized Cash for every purchase they make. These 'coloured coins' will be credited to an address of your choice when OP_GROUP is enabled.

    What is Cryptonized Cash?

1% of your order total will be credited back to you in the form of 'coloured coins' called Cryptonized Cash (CC). You can use CC for free shipping and discounts. More utility will be added once it's clear OP_GROUP is going to be enabled.

How do I earn Cryptonized Cash?

By buying products that are directly available on cryptonize.it ( 'Order Anything' service is excluded ). More ways of earning CC will be added once it's clear OP_GROUP is going to be enabled.

How much is Cryptonized Cash worth?

1CC is valued at $0,10. If you buy a product on cryptonize.it worth $250,- you get 25 Cryptonized Cash accredited, worth $2,50 you can spend on delivery or as a discount on your next order.

How is Cryptonized Cash going to increase transaction volume?

By leveraging OP_GROUP for an incentive program, the customer gets an incentive to buy something again and use their CC for free shipping or a discount. He/she could also gift CC to a friend who can use it for the intended purposes.

Why is OP_GROUP needed for Cryptonized Cash?

Without OP_GROUP, the user would probably need 2 separate wallets to make this work, 1 for Bitcoin Cash and another for Cryptonized Cash. Apart from being a lot of work, it's just not user friendly.

** Why don't you wait for OP_GROUP to be enabled? **

'Ain't nobody got time for that'

Bitcoin Unlimited voted on this feature early December 2017. The proposal passed with 19 votes for, 0 votes against and 3 votes abstained.

I am advocating for mature decision making based on the current needs of participants of the network. It is important for businesses and users to give their thoughts. Even though ultimately it is the miners who run the network, it is the users, who use the network and developers who develop for the miners. We do not have a vote, as non-miners, but we do have a voice as individuals and businesses.

If you want to support cryptonize.it, /u/thezerg1 and all others in favour of enabling OP_GROUP on the upcoming upgrade in May, raise your voice. If you are against it, please present your arguments.

Edit: As a merchant, I do not want to be pushed off chain to increase use of my business. If counterparty gets the green light and OP_GROUP is disabled until November, I can choose to grow my business and go off chain, or wait for 6 months risking someone doing an ICO on counterparty, taking marketshare or scamming a bunch of people who then are invested in a shitty competitor.

I would rather have nothing and wait till November, than only counterparty which would leave me no choice.

    Concern Trolls out about OP_Group

    Posted: 20 Feb 2018 10:29 AM PST

FYI, I've noticed a lot of /r/bitcoin people coming over here and basically just repeatedly saying that OP_Group is not being added because of 'business interests' with Bitcoin ABC.

Seems like they're trying to manufacture a narrative to split the community when something positive (re-adding OP codes after testing) happens to BCH.

Colored Coins: Counterparty Cash Announces Support for Token Assets

[OP_GROUP] is too early, not tested, outside the scope of agreed changes for May and not needed in any event. I do not see why there is a push for a new OP_Code that is radically different in many ways without detailed testing. There is no way that would be done by May
