Consensus! JGarzik: "RBF would be anti-social on the network" / Charlie Lee, Coinbase : "RBF is irrational and harmful to Bitcoin" / Gavin: "RBF is a bad idea" / Adam Back: "Blowing up 0-confirm transactions is vandalism" / Hearn: RBF won't work and would be harmful for Bitcoin"

Congratulations to Peter Todd - it looks like you've achieved consensus! Everyone is against you on RBF!

Replace By Fee - A Counter-Argument, by Mike Hearn

    https://medium.com/@octskyward/replace-by-fee-43edd9a1dd6d#.suzs1gu7y

Repeating past statements, it is acknowledged that Peter's scorched earth replace-by-fee proposal is aptly named, and would be widely anti-social on the current network.

    — Jeff Garzik

Coinbase fully agrees with Mike Hearn. RBF is irrational and harmful to Bitcoin.

    — Charlie Lee, engineering manager at Coinbase

    Replace-by-fee is a bad idea.

    — Gavin Andresen

I agree with Mike & Jeff. Blowing up 0-confirm transactions is vandalism.

    — Adam Back (a founder of Blockstream)

    Serious question:

Why is Peter Todd allowed to merge bizarre dangerous crap like this, which nobody even asked for and which totally goes against the foundations of Bitcoin (ie, it would ENCOURAGE DOUBLE SPENDS in a protocol whose main function is to PREVENT DOUBLE SPENDS)??

Meanwhile, something that everyone wants and that was simple to implement (increased block size, hello?!?) ends up getting stalled and trolled and censored for months?

What the fuck is going on here???

After looking at Peter Todd's comments and work over the past few years, I've finally figured out the right name for what he's into - which was hinted at in the "vandalism" comment from Adam Back above.

Peter Todd is more into vandalism than programming.

Message to Peter Todd: If you want to keep insisting on trying to vandalize Bitcoin by adding weird dangerous double-spending "features" that nobody even asked for in the first place, go sabotage some alt-coin, and leave Bitcoin the fuck alone.

This is a repost for some history:

Half of the posts on the front page are bitcoin bashing posts. Let's try and promote to positives of BCH rather than the negatives of BTC.

My father always told me it is highly unprofessional to say bad things about your competition. Any newcomers might get the wrong idea about our community.

It's a much more effective strategy to promote what you're good at rather than what the competition is bad at.

Let's try promoting our strengths rather than BTC's weaknesses.

Jihan Wu to Paul Krugman: "Please try Bitcoin Cash."

    Posted: 13 Jan 2018 12:11 AM PST

Why we need to adopt the pure green circle Bitcoin Cash logo. Please read.

    Posted: 12 Jan 2018 09:01 PM PST

There's been a lot of discussion about logos and colors and different ideas popping up. I've had a few different opinions myself, but having more discussion, /u/Time_Value_of_Money has swayed me into wanting to adopt the pure circle green logo like Coinbase.

First, please take a look at the logo on Coinmarketcap.com. It does not fit. It does not look good. It looks weak. Take another look here: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DTZJp7_WkAASn7l.jpg:large Also looks very weak and appearing smaller than its counterparts. We want the full circle and full size B. We want the logo to be as big and as bold as possible.

    /u/Time_Value_of_Money explains...

A rectangle is not a good use of square screen real estate - see the BCH logo on the front-page of coinmarketcap.com. A [green] circular logo, or at least more "square" logo fits limited screen real estate better.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoincash/comments/7q0sbg/does_anyone_else_find_the_new_round_background_in/dsluq2p/

I agree I like the pure circle. Coinbase green pastel circle to be exact. Coinmarketcap and others will look to r/Bitcoincash as a "reference". The logo we champion is a lighthouse to the broader world. Our decision on logo style and color matters here.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoincash/comments/7q0sbg/does_anyone_else_find_the_new_round_background_in/dslvaay/

Yes! Exactly! A rectangle is a poor use of "square" or "circular" screen real estate.

Moreover, we need to use green as a means to differentiate. I am convinced Coinbase has done it's due diligence on choosing a purely circular green pastel logo.

Orange is a disliked color by most people. Remember, our audience is NOT current BCH or former BTC users, it is people who do not own a single satoshi. Second, I can't find the source, but I recall seeing research pastel colors like Coinbase's are more welcoming than darker colors.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoincash/comments/7q0sbg/does_anyone_else_find_the_new_round_background_in/dslvq61/

These reasons have me completely convinced that we should adopt the pure green circle with upward tilted "B" as the logo for Bitcoin Cash similar or the same to how Coinbase presents it. We should apply it to /r/bitcoincash and get Coinmarketcap to change it ASAP.

    Discuss.

The Coinbase-induced transaction spike that is crippling the BTC network?

    Posted: 12 Jan 2018 03:36 PM PST

Mike Hearn: It’s ludicrous that people are actually writing posts on reddit claiming that there is no crisis. People were criticizing my post yesterday on the grounds that I somehow overstated the seriousness of the situation. Do these people actually use the bitcoin network to send money everyday?

    Posted: 12 Jan 2018 10:04 PM PST

The issue is that it's now officially impossible to depend upon the bitcoin network anymore to know when or if your payment will be transacted, because the congestion is so bad that even minor spikes in volume create dramatic changes in network conditions. To whom is it acceptable that one could wait either 60 minutes or 14 hours, chosen at random?

The whole point of Bitcoin is to usurp govts & banks and empower people to give them financial freedom. You can’t do that with a tiny network that fights against mass adoption. The smaller the network the easier it’s captured. Bitcoin Cash is the future that I’m fighting for now.

Bitcoiners are angry because their portfolio/wealth is threatened by Bitcoin Cash. They don't care about decentralization.

Bitcoin is not a get rich quick scheme, it is a tool to free humanity from the select few who fund debt, wars and degeneracy. Never forget the end goal folks, its economic freedom and a fairer way to organize society. The guy in this video explains this very well.

I went over to that other sub.... (Not bashing)

    Posted: 13 Jan 2018 12:37 AM PST

This isn't about bashing anyone, but I have an observation.

The tone over there is very panicky/fearful.

Theads about calling coinbase support to demand they stop "spamming" the mempool, etc.

My point: be careful and keep an eye on things these next few weeks.

And take action to support whatever coin(s) you believe in.

And support the exchanges, services and websites you believe in. Because chances are they're going to be under pressure from a lot of desperate people, if they're doing anything that happens to put BTC at risk (as if a for-profit company or exchange has some obligation to support a certain currency).

What can you do? Leave a positive review if you enjoy a service. It takes 1 minute on FB, google, the app store, etc. And you never know who might read that review and appreciate it.

    Just remember...

When someone feels desperate and has their back against the wall, they'll do anything to survive.

And when money is involved, it's even more true.

The next few weeks/months might get pretty wild.
