XRP: a decentralized, global reserve currency. Digital gold.

    Posted: 31 Dec 2017 12:31 PM PST

When XRP validators become fully decentralized later this year, it no longer belongs to Ripple the company.

The XRP ledger, and XRP itself will belong to us.

Everyone in the crypto scene knows we need a fast, frictionless, and environmentally friendly coin. This is the year it becomes ours. When XRP pops up as a payment option in our browsers, as part of the upcoming W3C standard running on Interledger, it will be used millions of times per day.

When we launch a new utility coin ICO, it will be built on top of the XRP Ledger.

We will ultimately decide the value of XRP. We will decide the best uses for XRP. Ripple, and their team of top talent and warchest of billions can come along for the ride.

XRP is digital currency. Everything else is an altcoin.

    command line XRP price tracker

    Posted: 31 Dec 2017 04:35 PM PST

Created a command line tool just to quickly track XRP prices between exchanges as well as the total price of my portfolio.

    Example gif: https://i.imgur.com/vDRoTav.gif

    Git repo: https://github.com/christophior/xrpcli

If you're familiar with node and npm you just need to have node v6 or higher installed and you can just install globally using the command

    npm install -g xrpcli

once installed you can just use the command

xrp to get the current price or

xrp <number> to get the price info as well as the total worth of the input number of coins based on the current price.

    Cheers!

What impact can Coinbase have on XRPs value?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2017 03:59 PM PST

A significant number of people stuck trying to buy XRP?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2017 04:49 PM PST

I theorise that there are a lot of non-techie people who have tried and either failed or waiting to buy XRP. This is based on the fact that most people I know who now own XRP, only do so because they were guided through the multiple steps required.

In September/October, I recommended using Kraken (through SEPA transfers from Revolut) to a couple of people, so they could buy in without incurring high fees. By December, Kraken was unusable so I recommended Bitstamp to the same people and others. Some signed up and are still pending verification, and now that Bitstamp currently do not accept new customers, others were left waiting. I now recommend using Coinbase/GDAX to buy crypto, then transferring to Binance (as Bittrex is now also not allowing new signups).

To a new crypto investor, this is a hard enough process to understand, but it is exacerbated by the fact that many sites still recommend using Bitstamp, Kraken or other exchanges that have been overloaded the last few weeks. (I think Ripple need to keep their list of recommended exchanges updated to those which are currently usable.)

I am hoping that as the exchanges learn to cope with increased load - and more exchanges that allow new investors to buy XRP from fiat currencies - we should see a boost in the next couple months from new investors in addition to any announcements made.

On December 29th, lots of coins went missing on the XRP (Ripple) network - can Ripple provide clarity?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2017 08:43 PM PST

[Serious] Can we please have a mature, focused discussion to settle the following question: Is XRP centralized or decentralized?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2017 06:01 AM PST

A lot of XRP's detractors commonly cite their dislike for XRP being rooted in it being a centralized coin, which goes against the spirit of cryptocurrency. And I can certainly see why there is at least an impression why XRP is centralized, being that it's managed by one company - Ripple.

On the other hand, I've seen it said a few times on this subreddit that XRP is not centralized. Even on the Ripple website, they cite "decentralization" as one of XRP's features, adding that it has "Over 55 global validators and growing." What does that mean?

Is XRP really centalized or decentralized? I think this is an important point to discuss because just on mere optics, the impression that XRP is centralized works against it. If it is in fact not centralized, we should be able to cite the reasons why at least in this community.
