    Coinbase needs competition ASAP

    Posted: 19 Dec 2017 04:52 PM PST

One organization should not play such a powerful role in which coins succeed and which don't. A foundational reason why crypto is supposed to be a game changer is decentralization. But somehow what transpires in the cryptosphere is that one centralized organization picks and chooses which coins get added, manipulating the market.

Did you notice Bcash going up a lot before it was added? Insider trading. Coinbase is corrupt just like most banks and financial institutions.

    FUCK COINBASE.

    Thanks for listening.

    Bitcoin Cash listed on Coinbase

Don't worry we will fix it!

Toxic - This isn't the vision we had.

    Posted: 19 Dec 2017 09:17 PM PST

Toxic. This community has become toxic. In 2011 I truly believed that we (the tiny irrationally excited group that we were) could promote and help cultivate a vision that at it's core believed that financial inclusion was of utmost importance. For so long that's what the vision was, why and how did it change?

When I first started working on the Bitcoin project, I truly believed that it could help facilitate real time payments and by doing that it could help unlock liquidity that could help propel businesses and people forward.

As Bitcoin started to hit mainstream media, it lost everything faster than I could have helped build it.

Personally, I don't care what currency you want to support or if you want to buy a "moon lambo".

At the end of the day, if you're not helping promote a financially inclusive world then you're missing the bigger picture. This whole "gold rush" isn't about making yourself rich or making yourself wealthy.

I actually work on the projects many of you want to be rich off of - So, please stop posting fake content, stop wanting a lambo. I want a world that is better off and can streamline payments.

I want what's better for everybody else - that's why I have worked on this for over 5 years.

edit: I sincerely appreciate the gold, but I wish I could have used it for something else. Server up time is great - so I'll take the contribution and pay it forward. Thank you very very very much!

We shouldn’t be ok with what Coinbase just did

    Posted: 19 Dec 2017 06:38 PM PST

Coinbase just added Bitcoin Cash to their service without any announcement. There is clear evidence of insider trading which should be outrageous enough on its own but I feel like people are missing the other part of this. Coinbase, the largest exchange in the US, geared towards inexperienced crypto investors, just added a new coin to their service without warning.

We knew it was coming but it's unacceptable that the date and time was not announced well in advance. This is market manipulation and this should worry a lot of people. BTC crashes and BCH gets pumped to the point where Coinbase feels the need to halt trading. What did they think was going to happen? I'd like to chalk it up to incompetence but all the evidence points to incredibly shady behavior. We should expect and demand better than this as a community and I hope the SEC or any other relevant regulatory body investigates Coinbase thoroughly.

EDIT: It's shocking and disappointing to see people justifying insider trading and market manipulation. Saying they're going to release Bitcoin Cash "before January 1st" is not even close to the same thing as specifying a date and time in advance to the release. You don't have to take my word on how this created mass instability in the market. Just look at the last four hours.

EDIT 2: The point is Coinbase should have been transparent and they weren't. If they had been specific with the timing, you wouldn't hear people complaining.

    Good Morning from Britain

    Posted: 19 Dec 2017 11:02 PM PST

Just woke up here to find blood everywhere. I would ask what the bloody hell you Americans did whilst all of Europe is still asleep, but I'm seeing that attacks in the night via currency exchange clearly shows that you can't be trusted. Splendid.

Before you all throw us your absolutely terribly uninspiring names of what this homicide is e.g. "CoinGate" and "Cashening" might I suggest something fresh along the same lines as Brexit. We all know how much you love to throw Gate onto absolutely everything.

How about BitBlood or CoinCrunch or even LetTheEuropeansSleepWhilstWePlungeTheKnivesInTheirBacks?

Anyway, Russia is probably just finding out along with us so I'm guessing it's not too late to jump aboard the gory BCH train.

    Cheerio for now you fuckers

In 20 years Bitcoin will be to crypto what AOL is now to the internet.

    Posted: 19 Dec 2017 10:47 AM PST

Less than 2 decades ago, the public was sold on paying for their internet by the hour, and AOL was the only king. Eventually people moved on to much different and better alternatives to get their porn beamed to their house.

I think we'll see something similar over the years to come with Bitcoin. It's the general public's entry point into crypto, but once they are in they realize how much better other cryptos are for multitudes of reasons.

Tl;dr I think your bitcoins are going to be about as valuable as your 20 hours of free internet CDs from AOL

This subreddit would be so much better if I didn't have to wade through 50% of the posts of people spamming their shitty fucking crypto blogs that no one reads or gives a fuck about.

    Posted: 19 Dec 2017 01:33 PM PST

No one reads / cares about these articles and there's never any comments or dicussion about it. It's also never breaking news - just reposted news of shit that happened a day ago.

These blogs are ruining the subreddit and removing focus on actual discussion. They don't contribute in any way.
