Pump and dump watchlist

    Posted: 17 Dec 2017 03:51 AM PST

Lot of newbies fall for pump and dumps and lose money. This is not only due to their lack of understanding of the crypto scene but as well as a lack of relevant resources to help them identify pump and dumps to avoid them and/or take advantage of them. To help prevent that we are building a pump and dump watchlist to highlight potential pump and dumps.

For a start we are using trading volume surge as a key indicator of possible pump and dumps. The logic is that a sudden trading volume surge can only be justified either by a very big news or a pump-and-dump. This list can serve as a trigger point, and you can easily jump on twitter and verify if there were any news justifying the exponential trading volume.

Here is how we are currently identifying PnDs: we identify the cryptos with average daily volume between $100k and $2M, and 24h volume at least 5x above their average daily volume.

You can see this list in our beta tool here https://beta.digitalassetdb.com. We have a section on the page called Exponential volume surge.

Please have a look and share your feedbacks in the comments.

What do you think of this approach? Would you add other selection criteria to make this list more accurate? What value do you see in maintaining a pump and dump watchlist since the crypto space is extremely volatile anyways?

Edit 1: We now show all assets with an average daily volume above $100K and 24h volume at least 5x above their average daily volume.

If the millionaires of the world each put an average of $20,000 into crypto, the total market cap would easily exceed $700 billion (USD)

    Posted: 17 Dec 2017 01:02 PM PST

Just some food for thought when thinking about the value of bitcoin and crypto in general. These prices make one wonder, where is all this money coming from? It's likely that a lot of it is coming from wealthy individuals looking to gain exposure.

Let's take out all the small timers out of the picture and consider what the 1% can do by themselves in this space.

    • If the millionaires of the world put an average of $20,000 (<2% of their portfolio) into crypto, the market cap would exceed $700 billion

    • If the millionaires of the world put an average of $100,000 (<10% of their portfolio) into crypto, the market cap would exceed $3.6 trillion

Depending on the cryptocurrency of choice, here's what this 10% scenario would look like if the millionaires chose ONE cryptocurrency to invest in.

    • Bitcoin or BCH: $200,000/BTC

    • Litecoin: $50,000/LTC

    • Ethereum: $36,000/ETH

    • IOTA: $1,285/MIOTA

    • Cardano: $138/ADA

    The boring math:

    • There are approx 36 million "millionaires" in the world (net worth > 1 million USD). (https://www.statista.com/statistics/203930/global-wealth-distribution-by-net-worth/)

    • Even if these millionaires had exactly $1 million each, a $20,000 investment would represent less than 2% of their net worth. This amount is a reasonable allocation they may choose to provide exposure to the tech and hedge against other assets. (Remember, this is a mean. Also very conservative since we assumed all millionaires only had $1 mil). $20k x 36 million = $700 billion

    • Sticking with this logic, an average allocation in crypto of 10% would mean for a total market cap of $3.6 trillion. This would put crypto on the level of gold (estimates of $6-7 trillion in total reserves)

    Thoughts/criticisms?

    Edit: Formatting

Edit2: Some are pointing out valid criticisms, some are getting hung up on pedantics. One thing I should have been more clear on, in this hypothetical, millionaires are not writing $20,000 checks to buy Bitcoin at current prices. This scenario is assuming they want to own $20,000 worth as part of their portfolio. Many of them already bought some at lower prices, but many would have to pay higher prices if they're later to the party.

I agree that if millionaires actually all tried to own this much Bitcoin prices would be ridiculous because there are other factors of demand. But that's my point.

For the average millionaire to hold $20k in bitcoin, there would need to exist at least $700 billion of it, and there isn't right now.

This is the type of dynamic that can lead to explosive prices like what we're seeing. It may or may not be a significant factor.

    alternative to coinmarketcap

    Posted: 17 Dec 2017 01:06 PM PST

I was wondering what alternatives are there to coinmarketcap, the main thing i would like to see would be the percentage gain/loss over the last say 3 weeks for each coin in the top 25 or so, in Coinmarketcap you can only 24 hr or 7 days and I would like to see which haven't really boomed in the latest bull market

    Financial analyst take on XRP

    Posted: 17 Dec 2017 04:27 PM PST

I received the below message from a family friend, who is a financial analyst.

I was hoping someone could help me validate it. I found some flags when i glanced at it, mainly referring to it as ripple vs xrp, the amount of $$ required to move XRP 10x as suggested by the writer and how huge the market cap would be...

"What do u know about Ripple? See article below from a friend's son of mine. They have 100 financial planners and American Express interested and growing rapidly.

35% of ripples trading comes from Japan. Banks are accumulating on a daily basis. (Added to Bloomberg terminal two days ago) I am speculating it will become a regulated currency and be worth trillions within the next few years. (Surpassing bitcoins market-cap) It will be a source of liquidity that will allow banks to transfer money cross boarder in seconds while cutting costs 60%. Ei- Yen converted to Ripple converted to USD for .003 cents. They have first mover advantage hitting the market in 2012, fastest technology, solid corporate framework and successful case studies performed by most notably by the Federal Reserve and Bank of England. In February they announced partnership with its crypto facilities to create a marketplace for XRP derivates. I am speculating this will be launched in 2018. Ripple will be the crypto bridge currency of the future. Get in now while the currency is only worth 28billion. We are going much much higher. This is my #1 pick for 2018 and am allocating a large portion of my capital to take advantage. I am expecting 10x return on my investment in 2018."

HitBTC has been receiving a lot of backlash lately for stealing funds, transfers not showing up in accounts, support team not responding. I transferred 77.602 XRP from my toast wallet to HitBTC on December 12th but forgot to enter the destination TAG. No big deal, I will just send HitBTC the tx information (sending address, receiving address, tx hash, and destination TAG). 5 days later and I have yet to see my funds deposited and I don't expect to see them in the future.

Wanchain: Beta Release + Dive into the tech that aims to reconstruct the financial sector | SpecRationality

    Posted: 17 Dec 2017 01:04 PM PST

For source and more information: Speculative Rationality - Wanchain

Upcoming open Beta release | The technology behind Wanchain

In their most recent update to the community, the Wanchain team announced the upcoming Beta release of the Wanchain platform on 18 December. This is an important milestone in the lead up to the planned Mainnet release in January of 2018 and will include the Beta versions of the Wanchain wallet and block explorer as well as normal transfers and privacy transfers. The project is definitely starting to ramp up and it is a good time to stop and reflect on the technology underpinning the project and why Wanchain is so strongly positioned to make serious waves in the crypto space.

To place the technology goals into context it is important to reiterate Wanchain's overall goal of "rebuilding the financial sector and expanding the digital economy" by ultimately providing the platform through which all financial transactions related to digital assets can be completed. A goal that can be achieved only through the safe, private, fast and fluid transfer of digital assets as well as execution of smart contracts across public and private Blockchains.

As per the public roadmap, Wanchain's technology milestones are broken up into four main iterations:

    DIAGRAM

    Dustin Byington, president of Wanchain described it best as he succinctly explained their tech premise;

"Wanchain will support cross-chain asset transfers but what will make Wanchain truly unique is cross-chain smart contract execution. Wanchain will have its own distributed ledger with Turing completeness and smart contract functionality. Smart contracts running on Wanchain will have the ability to take inputs and create outputs on multiple chains. Furthermore Wanchain will be the first to achieve privacy protection for smart contract token transactions." (Source)

We have considered below in slightly more detail some of the exciting aspects of the project:

Capitalising on native Ethereum strengths | Building on the strengths of a great platform to enable interoperability and privacy

The genesis block of Wanchain is a fork of Ethereum. This simply means Wanchain's Blockchain started as a replica of Ethereum (v1.7.2) and has been subsequently modified and built on to develop Wanchain's dedicated platform. The modifications will include adding cross-chain operability and intra-chain & cross-chain privacy.

By forking from Ethereum, Wanchain is able to capitalise on the strengths of Ethereum and utilise all of its functionalities including smart contracts, native tokens and decentralised applications (written in Solidity). Iteration 1.0 of Wanchain will also allow for the deployment of smart contracts to create new tokens with privacy protection. We speculate that this will allow ICOs to conduct sales without identifying the user addresses while still maintaining auditability and visibility of token sale funds.

Ensuring privacy of intra and cross-chain digital asset transfer and smart contract execution across chains | Enabling privacy to position wanchain as the protocol of choice for the financial services industry

Wanchain views privacy at the networking level as a fundamental requirement for the financial services industry and has made it one of its key priorities. The first iteration will enable privacy on transfers within Wanchain and later iterations will enable private cross- chain smart contract execution. The Wanchain privacy protocol utilises:

    • Ring signature scheme – based on Elliptical Curve Cryptography provides complete anonymity of the signer of the digital signature while allowing verification by any third party. Ring signature mixes the transaction sender in with a set of fake members to make the identity of the real sender untraceable. A form of the ring signature scheme is implemented in Wanchain to protect the privacy of the smart contract transaction.

    • One time account protection – A one-time account is foundational for anonymity and is generated for each transaction, so it can not be linked to the true owner.

Cross chain transactions with low integration thresholds and unmodified original chains | Plug and play interoperability (or close to it)

Wanchain is in effect a distributed ledger that will be able to achieve very low integration thresholds with other Blockchain networks and complete and record cross chain transactions without modifying the mechanisms of the original chains.

Effectively cross-chain transactions on Wanchain can work with registered or unregistered users from another Blockchain. When an unregistered asset is transferred to Wanchain a new corresponding asset is created using a built-in asset template to deploy a new smart contract. When a registered asset is transferred from the original chain to Wanchain, Wanchain will issue the corresponding equivalent tokens in the existing contracts to ensure that the original chain assets can still be traded on Wanchain.

A simplified example of the cross chain transfer process between Wanchain and a public chain as illustrated in the Whitepaper is summarised below:

Example 1 – Alice has an account on Ethereum and wants to utilise her Wanchain wallet to transfer 10 ETH to Bob who also has an account on Wanchain.

    1) Alice uses her Wanchain wallet to initiate a transfer on Ethereum.

    2) The recipient of the transfer request is an Ethereum cross-chain locked account.

    3) Wanchain's validator node receives the request and first verifies that the transaction has been recorded on the Ethereum network.

    4) The validator node then creates a new smart contract token 'Ether Prime' which corresponds to the ETH that needs to be transferred to Bob on Wanchain.

    DAIGRAM

Example 2 – Bob wants to transfer the 10ETH in his Wanchain wallet that he received from Alice to Chris who has an Ethereum account.

    1) Bob uses his Wanchain wallet to initiate a cross-chain transfer with the Ether Prime asset contract.

    2) On receiving the request the validator node confirms that there is 10 Ether Prime in Bob's Wanchain account and locks the 10 Ether Prime.

    3) After locking the asset, the validator node uses the threshold secret sharing mechanism to create an Ethereum transaction. a) The transferor is the locked account in Bob's Wanchain account. b) The transferee is the locked account in Chris' Ethereum account.

After the validator node confirms the Ethereum transaction is complete it clears the Ether in Bob's locked account in the Wanchain wallet.

Secure multi party computation | Wanchain's approach to security and privacy

To put it in the layman's terms, multi-party computing is the foundational Blockchain technology. Multi party computation refers to a series of computers/nodes working together to compute or validate a pre-defined outcome. Wanchain through its Locked Account Generation Scheme will apply a comprehensive approach to the security and privacy concerns related to multi party computation.

Wanchain's Locked Account Generation Scheme is the joint anchoring of threshold secret sharing and multi party computing which enables cryptographic computation by multiple parties on the Blockchain with the purpose of verifying transactions without compromising security. Without diving into the detail, the Locked Account is generated after a series of computations, its key is divided into several key shares and then distributed to the same amount of validators of Wanchain. Any operation on the Locked Account will require a defined portion of the validators' participation to complete and this ensures both privacy and security.

Value retaining native coin | Wancoin, A currency for secure, private, interchain financial flows

Wanchain's native coin is the Wanncoin. The Wancoin will serve as the intermediate currency for exchange across Blockchain networks. Wancoin will also be used to pay fees, participate in ICOs on Wanchain and eventually used for staking.

Wanchain is well positioned to execute on an ambitious roadmap, with the release of its open Beta we should see public interest and attention begin to climb. The market broadly has priced in a high premium for functional smart contract protocols as we see valuations skyrocket. Wanchain which introduces added layers of privacy and interoperability looks set to carve out a commanding share of market.

Spotted buy/sell wall that limits orders within certain boundaries. (LTC - 304 / 314 in this case.) Is this a method to direct a market?

Hello everyone! I spotted these walls just now on the LTC market and im wondering how does the person who does that, benefit from it. Any clues?

Experienced traders: What tips would you give to newbies?

    Posted: 17 Dec 2017 06:26 PM PST

Hello everyone! First the issue at hand and if somebody feels like reading some info of a complete stranger, it follows below. (wouldn't want to bother those who just clicked the thread for the tips with useless info).

So, all you seasoned folk: What are some tips and lessons you wished someone told you when you started trading?

Info: I have been trading for 3 weeks or so and im currently about 700$ under from the initial 2.300$ investment. Not sorry though cause consider that money as a kind of tuition fee. The sheer volume of info and prospect of future gains are well worth the 700$. (Besides, most of my losses were because of double-your-money-overnight attempts. If i focus entirely on ETH and LTC day trading, i find it very easy to make 3-5% profit a day.)

    Exchanges

    Posted: 17 Dec 2017 09:41 AM PST

Hello everyone! I have recently got addicted to putting like $100 into a lot of altcoins. The problem is that I cannot seem to find a reliable exchange! Going on Twitter, Poloniex, bittrex, bitfinex and a few others all have hundreds of people commenting saying "help ticket number xxxxxx it's been x weeks!"

Is there an actually good exchange out there??

    Thanks all!

Are projects using ERC20 tokens captive to Ethereum network?

    Posted: 17 Dec 2017 06:11 PM PST

Is it easy or even possible for an ERC20 token -based project to move away from the Ethereum network if scalability, transaction fees or times become an issue?

I''m doing research into several low-cap cryptos, and am running into quite a few ERC20 tokens. As the Ethereum network is congested and there are serious concerns about scalability in the short and medium-term I'm concerned for the viability of these tokens.

Do you see a coin being an ERC20 token an inherent risk?
